Sounds like a really cool and effective wildcat. One of the best ideas yet, right in there between a 300 mag and a 338 Mag. Actually, your velocities make it even better than "between."

We have not built one yet. I'm surprised you can get to 3000fps with a case that holds about 15grs less than the 8mm Rem (which just gets to 3000 with a 220gr). I sort of figured about 2850fps, which would have been ok.

My 8mm-308 Norma would get 3000 fps with the 196 gr Norma Dual Core bullet and IMR 4350

Rod: your right..so were we,but it does just that. We`ve cronied this thing to many times for the first readings to be incorrect. I`m thinking the case is just that efficient, and remember the 26 inch tube. No pressure signs tho, and I make sure we look for them..one thing bout making up a round no one has loading info on. This wildcat really smokes.
We bought a box of 200 grn. Sierra Match, only sold till recently in Europe, for some long range trials,500, 600 yrds. We are pushing the bullet to 3150fps. Excellent results. I`m thinking bout building one for me.. the first was for my son.

Yes, the Nos. 200 grn. shoots very well. So does the 180. Ryan used it for deer in Wyoming this past fall.

Let me know how ur 8mm WSM turns out. I love the 8mm mag. 3300 ft per second easy with nosler B.T., 3100 ft per second with 200 grain anything, and 2800 ft per second with blue mounatin custom.

Dropped a dall shepp at an honest 450 yards two yrs ago with a nosler B.T.

I actually have a light wieght barrel for the 8mm and am thinking of a weatherby untra light action.

No not really, just that everything that it was ever pointed at got sorted out in a hurry. With all the 8mm bullets that are easily available today, I'm sure it would perform at least as well.

BTW, I checked and those 196 gr Norma Dual Cors are no longer available. They are quite different construction than the Swift, not bonded and no partition. The Swift should actually be a better bullet.

Yukoner..thanks for the post..We do like the Swift. We got the draw for Elk in Co. this fall. Ryan will be shooting the 220 Swift. I don`t know bout your experience with bullet expansion, but when we shot this bullet into a gallon milk jug filled with water, the jug mostly was gone. I know the bullet did not come apart totally, but wonder if the front portion before the belt is designed soft on purpose. I was impressed with the results..Now please don`t jump all over me in that this is not a scientific test of Swift bullets..I would be the first to agree..but I`ve shot enough bullets of vairing construction and cals. at jugs to make some determination of performance on game. This bullet looks like it will produce a massive wound channel, with the base holding together, to drive through the animal. Yes/no? Anyone?

If you have a wild hair. Check out (AHR Cartridges ) i think u can find them on net useing AHR Cartridges, or try Howell Cartridges or (www.hunting-rifles.com )

They offer a lengthened cartridge off the 30-06 case. The cases are 2.6 inches long. Standard length action and according to there printed ballastics impressive. They dont offer a 8mm, but could neck up a 30 cal.
