Maybe the coatings move across the lenses as we scan the view?

I have a Swift 4x. Decent glass, but it suffers from glare problems.

If it really matters, I can dig out the box but I remember it as an Asian import.

Another ad I had saved a few years ago while shopping, had several riflescope models sold by EABCO, imported from Germany.

Actually what I am told by good sources is Schmidt does not make the raw product, comes from schott and Asia just like everyone else, they coat and grind their own glass but they do not produce the raw product. May want to hit Pete or Mark if u want more detail.

All Mueller scope except one are made in China.

The lone exception is the Tac II 3.5-10x44 which is made in Japan.

Interesting thread. Are the guys who always say "All Chinese optics are junk" taking a nap?

China has not yet produced any truly excellent scope that can compete with the higher end stuff. They did produce a couple of very nice binoculars, however.

Everyday Hunter,

Hawke and Zen Ray are the two Chinese binoculars I have seen that are really good.

Though it is debatable whether they can be considered two different binoculars. They are so identical that the only real difference is diferent stippling and finishes on the rubber coating. Even the names are in the same place on each. So my guess is that they are coming out of the same factory.

Not necessarily. The challenges are a bit different though. I think a truly top notch riflescope will be manufactured in China before long, since some of the stuff I have seen recently is markedly better than samples from 5-10 years ago.

You'd think with the amount of shooting of Chinese citizens the Chinese Government does they'd have perfected a top quality scope a long time ago.

I don't think they use optics for any of that shooting.

No matter how good they get, they won't support the wages and conditions that we demand, yet are unwilling to pay for.

hope that day will come soon. I have gone through a couple of NCStar scopes. I won't call them good scopes for sure.
