My latest itch is being scratched. My Mini-14 in 6.8 is great for what is, but the round has a lot to offer -- light rifle profile, adequate lethality for deer, near zero recoil, an increasingly impressive selection of factory fodder etc... And I want/need/must have -- you all know-the pathology -- a more accurate traditonal profiled rifle in the caliber. My grandson might even get his first deer with it.
After long searching for donor ideas, I came across a shop that bolts Lother Walther barrels onto NIB CZ 527s in the caliber. In 5 weeks or so I should have it. 20 inch SS barrel, SPC II throat, and 1 in 10 inch twist. Some extractor work needed too.
After delivery, the bottom, metal is off to RVB Precision to have the magazine shortened flush with the stock bottom line and 'ears' ground off. I'll use that for hunting and keep a spare standard mag for range work etc...

Sounds like a GREAT idea! One thing else I would do and that would be to replace the safety with one that works in a more normal - to us in the US anyway - fashion i.e. foreward to fire. Especially if one is going to start out a youngun with said rifle. See if RVB has such a piece, if not Calhoun rifles does. Ed LaPour might. That bassackwards safety is the only reason I do not have a couple of these excellent rifles around. I have bought a few and they shot good, I just cannot stomach the safety.
This round with one of the really light Barnes TTSX's should be a real deer killer at moderate range, especially with the size of the Whitetails you have there. Do report back, I am curious as to how this will work out at the end. Like it a lot, in theory.

Safariman,
Thanks for the tip on the safety. I hear that some newer CZs aimed at the US market have safeties that work "our way".
The Barnes 85 gr TSX clocks @3030 fps from a 16 inch barrel in 6.8 SPC. With four more inches of tube, mine should do even better by @ 100 fps.
Will keep you posted on this one. 1B

That'l surely giterdone! I am hoping you are right on the safety issue. If so, I will have to go and buy one.... or two...
