I have seen some real lousy shooting and poor accuracy out of air rifles offered for big cash.
I am looking for an accurate field gun. Pest control is my main concern but also enjoy shooting.
Which one do I buy?

I've got a Beeman R-10, .20 cal, and love it. I regularly knock off squirrels, starlings, cowbirds and such out to around 40yds or so. Sometimes further. It will reliably kill cats and jackrabbits out to 35 yds.
Haven't benched it lately, but last time I did, it would shoot groups less than quarter inch at 35yds when I did my part.
The R-10 is now discontinued, but they still have the R-9 and now an R-11.
Bring enough gun and know how to use it.

benjamin silver streak or a blue streak. had one for years and years. still works really well. never put a scope on it. even with patridge sights and my bad eyes, it's deadly in the back yard. .20 cal. rocks.

Get a fixed barrel !
Look at the Gamo CFX about $250 w/a scope -i have one and it is very accurate.This rifle is the best bang for the buck that can be had!
Quiet is very important to me and the cfx has a -shroud- some call it a muzzlebreak -it is quiet for a 1000fps rifle.
I have killed hundreds of grey-digger ground squirrels -and lots of black birds and tree squirrels.
A pellet rifle is like a firearm -you have to test pellets to see what your rifle likes -it will like match grade pellets trust me. RWS flat tip "supermags" are most accurate in many rifles. Don't buy into the little red tip [v-max look] and other "cool" names -get the boring looking flat point -they don't win the majority of shooting matchs for no reason. There are many high quality pellet rifles out there and a good one will last you a lifetime -you get what you pay for.

Maybe it was the pellets but the last Sheridan I shot was not accurate. 3" groups at twenty five yards is not accurate. I used to love them as well, owned one that was a real tack driver as a kid. Thank you for the good advice I am looking at RWS and Gamo CFX

I have a sheridan blue streak now ,and it is wonderfully accurate. however,it doesnt compare with the rws 48 I used to have .I saw total penetration on a blackbird at a MEASURED 73 yards. Only hitch,it cost $400 plus dollars ,over 10 years ago.(early 90's)Add in a 6x burris ,plus rings ,vs, $105 for the blue streak.(Which by the way, has a figured walnut stock}

RWS .177 Open sights or scope it, decent price, powerful and accurate.
