I am piecing together information for my next rifle build utilising a Browning BLR as a donor action. A query I have is - Are there aftermarket extended capacity magazines available for the various BLR manufactures [new or early series]? I would ideally like to get hold of 8-10 shot magazines... If not, has anyone adapted to BLR to take a larger capacity Magazine? Or other options?

cheers,

Cam.....

G'day Cam

I've seen a BLR with a modified SLR magazine, I think it was a home workshop job rather than done by a gunsmith. That gave him a 20 shot capacity but it really messed with the balance when it was loaded. I'm not aware of any aftermarket magazines but would be interested if you find one.

May I ask why you want such a magazine?

Allen is on the right track - I use my 308 BLR mostly for culling feral goats - we can sometimes get onto mobs of 20+ with only a couple of shooters and the standard 4-shot BLR magazines are a limiting factor. I wouldn't want a 20-shot mag though, any more than about 8 shots would really spoil the balance.

I emphasise that this is for culling of feral animals; if I was going deer hunting I'd be more than happy with the 4-shot mag.

I would also be interested in a higher capacity mag for the BLR. Maybe a talented manufacturer will have pity on us and start making them

On some forum, in the past, I saw a post that indicated a gunsmithing outfit in the UK had made extended magazines for the .223 BLR, which is itself a rare bird. I went to that outfit's website, and did not see that listed as one of their services, but of course just because something is not listed does not mean a talented 'smith could not do it. I apologize, though, as I cannot recall the name of the business, nor the forum on which I saw the post.
