I believe you are confusing regrets with guilt.

Maybe that age old prayer about serenity is applicable. I added a line.

Grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
With or without regret.

In my observations those who make their choices based on a system of values have fewer regrets than those who make choices based on emotions and what "feels good" at the time.

I have made my share of mistakes in fact probably my share plus two or three other peoples as well , but every single shoice over the years has been a step down the path that brought to where I am today. And to me at least this spot is pretty darn nice ! I have a loving wife and three great kids, enough of all the essentials and at least a little left over for fun things. What could be better?

If any of those steps had been taken differnetly I would be somewhere else in life and who knows what I would not have as a result. No Regrets from me at all.

I'm just gonna go with what the rational part of the brain says is right, and try to ignore the other arguments.

I did a BUNCH of that in my younger adult years and was convinced it was the better route, now I go with my heart.

I've oft times thought folks spend entirely too much time attempting to decide what it is they want in life. Much better to determine what it is that you don't want.

Do I have regrets? Yes I do have one great big one. It happened years ago. It was when I came back west from Florida leaving my ex-wife and kids behind with the hope that I could get her to make a choice between her mother or me to save our marriage. She choose her mother. So in effect I lost contact with my kids who were the apple of my eye.

Looking back now it was meant to happen as our marriage was on the rocks anyway and if I had not moved back here the marriage would have ended in a divorce anyway and I wouldn't have met my Second wife who I have been married to for almost forty years.

Sometimes those regrets can work out for the better.

wish i woulda spent more time with my younger cousin who fell asleep at the wheel and flipped his truck a year ago.......nothing i coulda done to prevent it but wish i woulda done more fishin' with him and such.....had more good stories to tell his son when he gets a lil older....

spent more time with my grandfather and great grandparents before they passed in the last few years.....

as for the rest of my piss poor decisions.....prolly wouldnt have changed a one....wouldnt have gotten where i am now without a few of them and im pretty happy with where im at now and in all reality i didnt do much of anything to hurt anyone but myself and maybe give my dad some heartburn....
