and you don't have one? mad

Learned a new trick this last weekend at an event appropriately called "man vs. dirt".....

If you want a cold beer, and all you have is warm, there is a solution. I did't believe it when I heard it (nor did any of the other 30+ dudes around), but it's true.

Take your warm can or bottle of beer, place it on its side on a bed of ice, then simply roll it (barrel roll) on the ice for two minutes. The result is beer plenty cold enough to drink. Didn't believe it, and never would believe it, if I hadn't seen it (and drank it) myself.

When I was a Smokejumper 45 years ago, we used to cool our beer in the water tanks of the bunkhouse toilets. It cooled the cans within a few minutes (if flushed regularly to let cold water in) and hid the cans from the overhead. Good solution in the early 1960's.

I work in the oilpatch. If we need cold beer at the end of the day, I look for an N2 (or even CO2) bulker and bleed a small amount of liquid into a steel bucket. It always amazes me how fast a can of warm beer can freeze rock solid, after only a few seconds too long under a tiny stream of -280F nitrogen... You really only need enough vapour to full the bucket, and the cold will chill the cans of beer nicely. Don't try this with bottles! Just one drop of liquid N2 and the bottle implodes.

We were forever getting in trouble in RSVN for using the CO2 extinguishers to chill cases of beer at a time.

Was my outfit the only one? Did you do it too?

Terry, I've seen the CO2 trick. If time wasn't an issue there were flight crews that would take beer up and cool it off for you.
