Thinking the Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaitors would probably be a good option for any type of sheep hunting.

I liked the old OR Croc's, but they changed the fit and I don't know anyone the new ones fit well. Weird product descision, and from where I sit, stupid.

These Rab's are a very similar product, but with better fit. Same basic design, same price, and are eVent to boot (which I consider a plus).

I've heard good things about the Kenetrek's , though I have no experience of my own. They should be quieter than the other options.

Good luck,
Carl

I like the OR Crocs and actually prefer the new design.

Another good choice is the OR Flex-Tex if you are looking for a short gaiter. The newest version has the underfoot strap rather than the cordage you tie.

I wore the Kennetreks on a 10 day elk hunt last year, great gaiter and very waterproof, just don't get them near a fire!

timat46,
Thanks for the heads-up on the Kenetrek "like new" gaiters. Good deal, I have a pair ordered.

+1

I used the new design all season last year. They worked great. It's smart to have a replaceable instep strap. The only reason my old gaiters got replaced with the new design is because after ten years the instep strap wore through.

I don't need the extra room of the Kennetrek gaiter, but if I were needing something to go over a pac boot, that's likely the best bet, though I did get the Crocs to go over my packs on a particularly cold morning this year, but it was a tight fit!

I like the OR Crocs as well. I have the old style. I have the same concern as Brad about wearing through the instep strap. I have had them for about 8 years now and so far so good, well except for a couple crampon holes I had to fix.

By the way Happy Birthday Brad!

Not only did OR change the sizing on the crocs, they changed the instep strap from hypalon to PU coated nylon--maybe they figured they better make it easy to replace since the material isn't likely to be as durable. I LOVED my old crocs, but I can't wear the new ones because of the odd fit.
The flex tex's are pretty cool, they are a great short/light option.

The sizing on the Crocs sure did change. It's best to try them with the boot you plan on using.

What I do like about the new design is if you can get a fit they are snugger, especially with a light hiker style boot. I have been able to wade well above my boot tops when stream crossing and stay dry, at least until I reach the gaiter top smile

I also like the velcro lock patch rather than the older snap. I have had to replace snaps on several OR gaiter after a lot of use.

I used the Kennetreck last year when the "great storm" hit during my hunt in Colorado. Like them a lot!

Kennetreck are great gaiters they are quite enough to wear doing bow season and they work.

That is definitely a design improvement.

Timat46....I just got my $60 Kennetrek gaiters in the mail for $20. They're great. Thanks for the "411" on them.
