My all time best all around hunting round would be the 243. win or the 25-06. I think these calibers are good because they can take coyotes all the way to mule deer? what is your opinion? what caliber would you prefer?

257 Roberts, if looking for a varmint/big game gun that's fairly economical to reload, would get my vote.

All my hunting now is done with one of my 30-06's. Deer, black bear, wild hog(when not just using a knife) and coyote. Although I have used others with success I always came back to ole faithful.

I can't decide between .308 Win and the dastardly 7mm-08.

For the Breaks and plains of eastern Montana the .270 Winchester would get my vote for favorite(or maybe a .300 WSM for those beasty pronghorn).

If the big Brown and Grizzly bears aren't on your list of frequently shot animals (for 99.99% of us) - I'll vote for the 7mm-08.
In a lifetime of hunting I'd doubt you'd ever notice it was less effective than the vaunted (and great) 30-06. But, it is much gentler on the shoulder - and it is available in shorter, lighter rifles.
To me - it's what a rifle cartridge should be.

To me - it's what a rifle cartridge should be. +1 - it's a dandy cartridge. I have two (altho they were recently converted to AI versions), but I would have to give the very slight nod to the 284 win over the 7-08 just for a tad more pop without much more powder. These two cartridges are 1 and 2 on my list.
