Go-Bears.....

I'm going to email of friend of mine in California who hunts those same type of terrains you've described while wearing a Foliage Crew Cab. Foliage is the base color for ACU camouflage.

As for the Sierras.... all of us who've spent time there in our office agree ACU would blend really well.

I'll get back on here soon with the results.

It would work fine. The idea is to just break up the pattern, not exactly match it. Also, your ruck is usually laying flat on the ground behind you when you are sitting on the ridge glassing or when you leaning up against a tree in a drainage. If you are up bee bopping across a clear cut and a herd of elk catches your movement, it won't matter what you are wearing.

The older I get, the less I worry about what camo pattern I'm wearing. It's all good in my book (and that includes plaid!). It's the movement, or how you move, that matters most.

Whip, you gotta remember, some guys don't have to wear 400" of blaze orange above the waist when they have a rifle in their hands wink

Whip... I hear your point on the camo. I've mostly worn solids hunting here in Montana..... some camo when I'm bowhunting... depends on the day....

Our Blaze Crew Cabs meet the Orange requirements in Montana....

The foliage and coyote drab colors are just as popular as the Multicam we use....

All I know is, the camo on your back aint gonna make or break the deal. You can wear orange and I think it's a good idea, but I'll be wearing all the blaze that's needed and you won't see me at all, unless I want you to....it's happened many a time I just worked around someone that didn't have a clue and we were both better off for it. Now that I live in Montana I don't have to worry about that so much, as there's plenty of space to lose yourself in and where I go there's not much competition...........

I love the ACU camo and I know it'll work where I hunt, no problem, sage or timber. The crewcab I just purchased is, without a doubt, the most probmatically engineered backpack for the modern hunter I've ever encountered, and I've tried a few, believe me. Kootenay was right...I've never doubted his tried and true experience one bit. This weekend I'm gonna give the crew cab a test run. Final pack weight should run 48-50 lbs with the gear I've selected. The suspension system that MR has rigged up makes the apparent weight decrease, despite what the scales might say. Can't wait to get out there this weekend...hopefully the lake has thawed for some fishing...but we'll see.

Hmmmm.... Strawberry?? I'd give ya a call, but I get to go work 10 more hours tomorrow too. I could use the OT money, but I hate only getting a 2 day weekend frown

Mark,
I'm new to the 24 Hour Campfire forum as of today, but I learned about Mysery Ranch packs a few month's ago on another forum. I realize I'm late, but is the sale price still available for either of the following?

Foliage NICE Frame and ACU Crew Cab $420.00
Normal retail is $490

Mystery Ranch Crew Cab Set $550.00
Includes Foliage MR NICE Frame, ACU Crew Cab, ACU Daypack Lid, 2 Small Foliage Load Cells, 1 Large Foliage Load Cell...... normal retail for this set is $660.

I would use this pack for Elk, Mule Deer and Antelope hunting here in Colorado.

Thanks,
Bruce

As of August 17th, MR still had some ACU stock left. If interested, I would call ASAP.

I just got my CBMR Foliage NICE Frame and CBMR ACU Cerberus last week. I'm kicking myself in my butt for not buying one of these earlier. This is by far the best pack that I have ever used. I believe after this hunting season, all of my hunting partners will be ordering one of these packs.
