I have a rem 700 SPS stainless that I want to improve the horrific factory finish on the stainless; the barrel at a minimum (maybe I can live with the action the way it is). What is the best cost effective way to improve the look and feel. I don't mind the finish on the higher grade rem 700 such as the LSS or BDL SS. I don't want to end up with a super shiny finish however. Any experienced ideas out there?

Beadblasting. I have a .260 Rem that I had put together from a brand new stainless SPS in .243 Win and a mountain take off .260 barrel. Once put together the whole thing was beadblasted to match the finish. You can't tell the difference between the "regular" beadblasted finish of the barrel and the beadblasted SPS finish of the receiver.

I know I'm different but I like the finish on the SPS.

Its just too unrefined for me. Rough and grabs at everything it comes into contact with (clothing, etc.) and it looks kind of dirty. the guns a 257 wby and am putting it into a cdl stock so want to clean up the look a bit. Any idea of what bead blasting costs. Do most full service gunsmiths offer this. We have Allison and Carey here in Portland but I've only had them do a couple things for me over the years. Guess I'll call them and see if they do bead blasting. I like the look of that 260!

I would say most gunsmiths should be able to beadblast, if not then farm it out.
