Alright,
I've been hunting bears for 7 years now. The wife wanted a Black Bear rug. So, i say i'll shoot one for you no problem (thats how i get all them toys). Now after 7 years of not getting a bear, a friend in Tok tells me he'll take me to his bait station, No problem getting a bear there. We'll see 6 or 7 a night and get her a real nice one.
That was all descussed in early january, In February my wife got sent to anchorage for complications with the Pregnancy. I had to take care of my 5 YO boy and make sure he got to school and all. My hopes were once again dashed!!
Then the Outlaws, um i mean Inlaws said they'd take the boy for the summer! So, now i've only got to jugle driving to anchorage a couple times a month to spend time with the wife. 350 miles one way.
Now bear season opens for baiting on the 15th of april. april rolls around and no bears are coming in, May rolls in and what do you know its getting hit. I start sitting over the bait in may and don't see sheit. The first weekend in june and i finally see a bear!!!! a SOW and THREE cubs that just made the season!!!
Durring the day i still work and in the after noons i've been moving and painting our new place. So, I'm getting tired. I finally decide that it's time to stop all this bear nonsence and take care of my responsablilities. My buddy calls up and asks if i want to go one last time. I conceede and we get into the stand about 2300 hours. we sit and wait and wait and wait some more. I've got sweat pouring down my body from all the clothes i've worn to keep the mosquitos at bay. (tried the Bug out suit earlier in the year. Waste of money. Don't work) My buddy and i decide we'll give it another half hour and then we'll leave for the season. Well wouldn't you know it but this little sucker showed up five minutes later. I was using my Rem 700 MTN DM 30-06 with 180 gn nosler partitions.
Well after a long debate in the stand and weighing our options my buddy told me to shoot and a split second later the bear was really unhappy. I put the bullet between the showlderblades from a Head on angle at 15yards. The funny thing is that i recovered the bullet! haven't weighed it yet but i really don't care. It worked.
We skinned it taped it at 5'2" with a 16 1/4" skull. I'm extatic. It's been a long long time a coming. After examining the hide we found one ear was split, his nose had a large gash and his chest and fore arms were scarred heavily. Very odd for this area. Most large bears don't have as heavy scarring.
Oh well, Here is the photo of his face. You'll be able to see the scar on his nose.

Great!

I have a general season Bear tag for the coast reange here. There are more blackies than deer nowadays, so I hope to take one home for dinner.

Congrats Paul,
I shot mine out of Tok towards the end of may this year. It was definitly a late spring for the bears.

I couldn't agree more. The bears just didn't start coming in to bait until later than usual. Just hope the Greenies in Anchorage don't get the bait ban that they are pushing for.
