What's your favorite two rifles if you had to pick only two?? Only 2? I hope it never comes to that but definitely my .375 (built on a commercial Mark X action). For the second probably my .243 (built on a 98 Mauser).

I'm down to 2 7-08's - that's about the best I can seem to do...grin.
Do have a Kimber and a Remmy - so I agree on that part of the combo.

One would be my 6.5x284 Serengeti and the other my Cooper in .223. Or maybe the Colt Elite, or the Dtech 243 WSSM, or......this is kinda hard!

One would be a .300 Wby, the other a 220 Swift. And no plastic stocks, please.

We are talking about 2 hunting rifles, leaving out a 22lr and a semi-automatic black rifle in 5.56x45 NATO. I would go with a Beretta Mato Synthetic in 30-06 with a Burris Signature Select 3X-10X-40mm scope with the Ballistic Plex reticle with Talley detachable rings and bases. The second would be a Remington 700 VSSF in 223 with a Burris Black Diamond 4X-14X-50mm scope with the Ballistic Mil-Dot reticle and target turrets installed with Burris Dual Dovetail bases and Burris Signature rings.

I like my pair for all the hunting I'm likely to do. A commercial mauser actioned 7x57 with 24" barrel and a commercial mauser actioned 9.3x62 with 21" barrel. The 7 wears a Loopy 2.5x8 and the 9.3 wears a Loopy 4x. Of coarse they are both backed up with commericial mausers in 338 winny mag, 24" and the great 30-06 with 22" barrel. The beauty of it all, ANY of the four could likely do everything I need a rifle to do. It sure is nice to have choices. Now to decide on which two will go to Africa in 2011. I'm thinking the first pair. Les

Being that I only own two CF rifles, I guess it'd be those two! I have a Rem 700 223 AI and a Ruger MKII 338 Win Mag. I don't think there's anything that I'll ever hunt that I couldn't do with those two. If the picks were just for big game, I'd pair either a 270 or 30-06 with the 338 and call it good.

My CDL 35 Whelen and right now a hybrid Remington 700 270 Winchester. The 35 Whelen has been bedded, floated and had a trigger job. The 270 has a TI stock(old style), the alaskan ti barrel, the action squared up and the lugs lapped. The bolt is going to Kampfeld for the TI look. I may sell that one after its done(?). The 35 goes 7.8 lbs scope and rings, 270 goes 7.2 lbs scope and rings. Oh 270 is bedded and free floated also and trigger job.
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Just two? That's almost too tough but I'd go with a Remington 700 Alaskan Ti in .300 WSM and a .243 of some sort, maybe a new Winchester Mod 70 Extreme weather. Narrowing down to 4 would be a little easier........................547.

Although I've been through many, the only two centerfire rifles I own at the moment are a .308 and 25-06AI. Both shoot as accurately as any rifle on earth and I can hardly imagine ever needing more.

Don't think I could make do with just 2 rifles, but you know I think it would be an easier decision during hunting season as to which rifle I would take. Probably one of of the 4 30.06 rifles that I have. Beware of the man with just one or in this case 2 rifles.

I'm pretty happy with a 308 Guide Rifle and a M700 in 300 Winmag . The 308 does the trick on TN whitetails and the 300 is hard to beat in the Rockies. I use the heck out of my muzzleloader here in TN though.

For big game, I like my Sako 85 laminate/stainless in .338 Federal and the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight I just ordered from FN in .25-06.
I'm recoil-sensitive and these two will get the job done on anything I'm likely to ever hunt and they won't hurt my shoulder.
For smaller critters (under 400 lbs) in open country, the .25-06 gets the nod. For those same critters in tight quarters or larger game anywhere, the .338 Fed takes care of business.
What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

Of the rifles I have in my pocession right now I think I'd keep my 257 AI on a Czech Mauser action which is a great varmint and deer rifle, and my Mauser M-1996 Straight Pull rifle in 30-06 Springfield. If, on the other hand, we were talking theoretical or "dream" rifles I'd likely keep the 7x57 I have in the works right now. Its being put together on a Mexican SR'98 action w/ a 23" 1-in-9" #3 Shilen, a Dakota 3-position "model 70 style" safety, beautiful walnut stock reconfigured with ebony foreend cap and grip cap, and cut checkering by Tim Smith-Lyon, 2-7x33mm Leupy VXII in talley lightweights. I purchased this rifle from TJ3006 over a year ago and anticipate it being in my pocession in March of '10. In that case, the "other" action my 'smith has on hold for me would come into play. An Interarms Mark X with a 24" light-taper Hart or Krieger, topped w/ NECG custom front and rear sights, chambered to 338-06 AI with a McMillan handle and blind mag to save weight. On top would be a Leupy VXIII 3.5-10 in Talley QDs. All finished in flat black Cerakote. I don't think that for NA light game you can beat the 7x57 for a "do it all" rig. For heavier I think the 338-06 is hard to beat. Together they'd make the perfect combination. I do have to say, however, that whatever issues such a question as this brings up has less to do with theoretical rifles I'd not be able to buy than it does with the thought of selling rifles I'm thoroughly attached to, like the Win '94 30 WCF my aunt & uncle bought me for my 17th birthday, and that staight-pull '06 that feels like my right arm when I shoot her. Thank goodness this is just a theoretical exercise or I'd be an emotional wreck .
