I'm wanting to buy a .223 for varmint hunting. I was originally looking for a 22-250, but some wise words convinced me otherwise. I want something with a laminate stock and a heavy barrel (not necessarily the heaviest, but definately not the light sporter guns). I don't really care about stainless steel barrels or blued barrels. I really like the Savage model 25 Light weight varminter and the model 12 varminter. I also like the new Remington Varmint gun and the Ruger M77. This is my first varmint gun, so i'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money.

I would also like to put on it a bullet drop compensation scope. I know that Nikon, Bushnell, and Leupold make them but I'm not sure who else. I would like something like a 3-9X50 or a 4-12X50. If anyone else has a good recommendation for a good varmint scope with the bullet drop compensation, I'm up for suggestions.

Thanks,

-matt
