Very nice rig. I have a friend that has a 338 lapua, built on a Sako action, its one of best rifles I have ever shot. Ive seen it do some bad things to free range Audad sheep at distances well over 400 yards. Nice rifle.

Comming outa your place I knew she would shoot. But the bolt handle is on the wrong side !! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Question about the muzzle brake tho - is that machined out of the barrel blank or just a seamless install of a threaded MB?

Looks like you machined it - similar I would think to the way Mr. Sisk put on one his tester he blew the end off of. 2nd pressure spike did it in.

The brake screws off. It is an Answer brake. I left it a little over sized instead of matching the barrel conture so she would be tougher for that big ass 338 lm

Roger that. I go to work in like 10 mins so I'll let him know and give him you email addy. I am sure he would be able to tell you better than me. I would guess it will be along the lines of an m4 with flat top and in the new 6.8 (?) mm round. Painted in digi-flauge too I am sure.

Thanks

The 338 was built for a docor in CO. He is bringing it to Africa this comming week. This trip, on of many there he aid, he wanted to do some long range stuff hunting as well as having the power and factory load with the proper bullets to take lion, Croc and Hippo at closer ranges. The forex ammo is awsome for hunting. It holds togetther superbly, yet expands.
This was the only reason he built this rifle, for this particular trip to Africa.
I may have to build me one like someday, but getting the donor action is rediculously expesive for what it is. I am not a big fan of the MKV action, but it would be fine for a hunter. They just want far, far too much money for the Weatherby name. M aybe I will design an action simular to the MK V but with 3 big lugs and and a totaly different recoil lug system.
Other than that, it is a decent action LOL.

Celt,

First, absolutely beautiful rifle! Secondly what type of scope is that? Lastly You very well may be on too something with your take on the wby action, if it was reasonably priced I'd bet it would do well.
