Have my eye on a LH Ruger Hawkeye .25-06 which I'd like to get rebored to 6.5-06.
The difference between .257 to .264 is slight. Can a good Smitty rebore a barrel for a caliber change this close?
Would appreciate any/all advice comments. I'm an old-timer but relatively new to hunting/shooting.
Thanks, Ron B

It would be best to contact the 'smiths that actually perform the re-bores. I have always had quick responses from http://home.earthlink.net/~oregunsmithing/ He told me he can re-bore a 243 to a 257, but I don't know about your question. Let us know when you get an answer.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It may be cheaper to just buy a new barrel though. Re-boring was kinda pricey last time I checked.

Thanks, Ron B Contact Randy Selby in Cody, Wy. He does great work and is reasonable.
The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.

Ron Check with a gunsmith, but I doubt if that rebore is possible, I think they are too close. I have had a couple rebores done, one from .243 to .260, and have been very happy with the results. As far as price goes, rebore is cheaper unless you buy a CHEAP barrel and install it yourself. Good luck and good shooting.
