Picked up a NIB Vanguard Sporter SS in 22-250 today. Always wanted to try a Weatherby and liked the looks of the stainless and walnut.
Anyhoo, I get on their website and see that they have a recall on the Vanguards concerning the bolt. They list the Serial Number ranges that are affected and my new toy is in that range. VS212_ _ _
But it also says that the affected rifles were made between 1973 or something and 1994! It is my understanding that the Sorter SS models were introduced in 2005, so I'm confused. Are they re-using some Ser. Nos.?? Was this action made prior to 1994 and used much later like Ruger is famous for doing on the No. 1s, or???
I couldn't find a place to e-mail Weatherby and no one answers their phone, not even a machine. WTF??

Anybody out there able to shed some light on this for me???

Your gun is not affected..I doubt they are reusing serial numbers that might be illegal. The rifles in question were recalled in the 90's they didn't start making Vanguard SS rifles until this decade. Their phone number is 1-800-227-2016 and here is a link to their contact information weatherby contact and BTW someone picks up the phone all the time and there is no automated answering system. I have never ever had a problem contacting someone there.

I figured my gun wasn't affected but the serial number thing is a bit confusing. The phone number I tried is not an 800 no. so I will try that one tommorrow. Thank you.

I was impressed by the target in the box. 3 shots in 9/16" with 55gr soft points. I ordered some Talley Lightweights and look forward to trying to duplicate the factory target. I figure if plain old SP's can go 9/16ths some Nosler BTs or Hornady V-Max's should be even better.

Met Ed at his plant down in Paso Robles back in April. Great guy. Only have one Weatherby but after talking with Ed for maybe 45 minutes I've a new found loyalty for the company. Everyone I met down there was the same way, great people.

How's your trigger? Every vangaurd (or any other rifles nowadays) have a lot of creep and sloppy. My brother adjusted his and it shoots real nice.
