Personally, I really like TFO's. I have a 7 1/2', 3 wt and a 9' in 10 wt. They've treated me very well over the years.

TFO makes a very good rod at a decent price with perfect service and the best (completely transferable) guarantee... Reminds me of another company...

How would you guys describe the action on the TFO rods? I've considered getting the 7.5 3 wt as there's not enough funds in the bank right now for another Winston. That 2 wt sounds like a good time with those grayling.

Whip-I just fish them, would have no idea as to how to describe them, hopefuly Art or someone else can.

I just know that I like em, and their customer service like Art mentioned is just incredible! Plus the fellas that I've met from the company have all been very nice and corgile to work with.

Check em out next time your in a fly shop, me thinks you'll like.

They make a bunch of different actions... The new Axioms are pretty fast and stiff. The TiCrX is almost as fast and the TiCr is abit slower yet. All are more castable at rated weight than the faster sage rods.

For softer, but still very castable, I really like the Finesse series. The Signature series is too mushy for my taste.

Miss T has a 4wt 9' Professional series rod and I really like it for casters that know how to stop their backcasts.

Riley has an 8wt 9' TiCrX and they make a kit to replace the handle section and add another rod section to make a rod 11'3"...

My 2wt was too small for the grayling in one stretch of river because the fish were rarely under 14" and it takes too long to get them in and release them with the 2wt. They take a long time to revive that way. On uniform water where they can be followed easily and released quickly it is a lot of fun.

I used a 6wt last week because of the size of the fish and the broken water, so a guy should feel no shame in a 5...

Funny, I have two TFO rods, the 7 1/2' 3 weight and a Finesse 7'9" 5 weight.

That is a great idea, and I never even thought of it! My rule for 5 wt and up, is the same $$$ on the reel as the rod, or there abouts. I have had 6 pounders on the 5WT Pfleuger reel, and it perfomed very well for me. It is lake fishing, and we are trolling sinking line, so they gotta work. I grew up using the old Alvey reels for salmon, and those things could and would hurt if not tended properly. Makes a Pfleuger look pretty good. Thanks for all the info. I did look at a TFO as well, and it just didn't light my fire. Couldn't even say why. Just didn't feel right. I'll try the Imperials in the lot and then decide. I really didn't think it would be this complicated!

Realize too that much of the price difference in rods is the quality of the guides and other fittings... The smallest details may add the most, too, in both reward and cost. Or not.

Well now that we are talking rods and one want to go to twin bridges with me next week? Im going to pick up a new BIIx 7wt from the mother ship.

I have been flyfishing my whole life and just cant fish the lower end rods. Most of there actions are way too slow for me. Its all preference for me but I do like a rod I can feel load all the way into the handle, especially in my spey rods. The Winston BIIx is the best of both worlds as it is super light and fast but you can still feel it load into the butt of the rod.

Anyway is there really any thing better then pike on the fly????
