I own a Vari-X III 3.5-10x50mm with the heavy duplex. Did Leupold ever revise the shape of the heavy duplex as they progressed to the VX-III or VX-3?

Not sure on that, but I know it was different in the former lines depending on which scope you had.

The VX-III 1.75-6x32 scope had a very short thin reticle portion compared to the VX-III 1.5-5x20 or even the FX-III 6x42 scopes. In fact, there is almost no thin portion at all in the 1.75-6x scopes. I recently sent a scope back for the heavy reticle and it had the wider reticle installed, which I think I prefer.

I hope the pics show the difference. Here is the 6x42 showing the wider separation of the heavy lines.

Here is the 1.75-6x32 reticle. The heavy lines almost touch at the center of the reticle.

The only examples I'm aware of are for the 4.5-14X series. There the Heavy Duplex and the standard Medium Duplex are thinner. As to the thin opening, I don't know. You might consult Leupolds specs on this. E
