For now I'm keeping it quiet... I'll give them one more chance (and 3 weeks) to get it right before I go public and give them more bad PR than they ever hoped for (not like they need the help)

Okay, the master has examined the [bleep] up and spoken. Turns out that when the thru-bolt was drilled, he went way high and it came out right in front of the comb, which was the patch that I was contouring when I broke through and had nothing underneath. You'd think that a guy that specializes in shotguns would have a system to avoid that. Hell, I don't have much machining or gunstocking experience and even I know how to avoid that one!!!!! It's pretty easy on a lathe. Anyways, he threw a patch on the inside of the stock which is rather unapparent except when you go, "what the [bleep] is going on here?". Now the stock is sitting with the accraglass setting up where I've got only .08 of wood in the good spots. Functionally it will be fine, cosmetically probably your average jabone won't notice a thing, but I know it aint right and this is a very nice and rare piece of walnut. The figure in the rest of the stock will keep the wandering eye off the patch and it'll get "Wow's", but the damage is done and that's the way it is. I'm not out any money, as we did some horse trading for the job, but if I did my chiropractic the way he did this job, he'd be in a wheelchair right now.

Okay, rant over. My wife and kids are happy and healthy and life is good, and that's what really matters. Stuff is just....well.....stuff. The gun will point where I shoot and the ducks and geese will be in trouble this coming fall. And all of my rifles shoot better than I can, and most have factory barrels from the folks in Ilion, NY. Guess you've got a few complaints of your own, eh Dan? Sorry to hear the bedding job didn't fix things up.

Fishing will make things better on the 'morrow. That and a late night rendezvous with my honey. Just thinking about it I already feel better grin

The way the new Kimber project is going, I think I'll hit the river tomorrow afternoon. I got schitt to do Monday, and then its back to the Sweat Shop Tuesday (and I'm sure, since its straight time, we'll be working Friday.)

Good to hear the Master sorted it out for you... I don't even want to know what his shop rate is... At 3500 bucks for a stock there better be a KY pre-runner.

That reminds me... I've got one of Lee's blanks that I need to do something with. Nice piece of walnut, with lots of fiddleback. It was a "thanks for slaving your ass off" bonus when I worked for Jimmy. Conrad had just moved back into town, and we were in the process of moving the shop out to 35 when Lee showed up with his wood guy. Anyhow, Jimmy bought me a blank, even after I said "Not really my thing..."

Never a bad thing.....all seems right with the world afterwards and sleep comes easy.

BTW Dan, if you're thinking a few miles East of Polson on the South Shore, you'd be spot on.

I was thinking just that...

Years ago, Bob C was escorted out of there by the Po'po. I didn't know who to believe until I saw the stock frown Scotty Levengood thought he was quite the amatuer as well...

I think Steely has killed enough stuff wearing that yellow shirt to fill an ark.

The rifle matches the shirt! If that ain't cool...

Strung up a TFO Finese at 8 foot something, and another TFO at 7 foot something. Both seemed to cast well, but I'm not the best at throwing line. In the simulated fish fight, I liked the longer rod, as it had a better feel to it. Both rods had good vibrations to them, to just above the cork. No one in town has the Imperials in stock. Thinking about going long.

Gotcha...

Try one of the higher end St Croix's that are really fast action. Put one line weight beefier on it and see how you like it. (prolly the Remmy 700 Ti of the fly-rod world) Its go fast, but nothing special...

Dan
I overline and underline rods regularly and that is because most of my rods are acquired some unusual way or another... Like on close-outs or trades... So I am anything but a purist... But I do not understand the overline it from the start mentality.

If you like a slower rod, buy a slower rod; they are cheaper that way!

I can make the entire line go away with most any reasonable rod and line under decent conditions, but some rods require more work while others require better timing. The problem with the high end rods is how much harder they are to cast short. And few really fish very far from themselves.

Getting more of an underlined line out will load most rods well enough and distance is acceptable with them, too.

All by way of saying I overline because I am mostly a cheap bastard and end up needing to... Not because I intentionally buy into it.
