Guys,

I was in the Bozeman Wal Mart, and noted the sign on the gun cabinent that stated sales to residents of NV, CA, FL, CO, KS (and a few other states) were prohibited. Since NV at least is pretty gun-friendly (except for the people's republic of clark county) I was somewhat surprised at this restriction. The sales clerk had no idea either.

Anyone know the skinny on this?

They have to observe the laws in the states where the purchaser resides.

Denton,

That makes sense, Wal Mart quit selling guns in NV a few years ago.

Thanks.

Yeah, here's the skinny on that..we had to go through the same thing at work...( Not Walmart Bart...)
MT state laws prohibits sale of a long gun to anyone not in a contiguous state( contiguous with MT) But it is not enforced and our Attorney General has no intention of doing so...his office told us to go with Federal Statutes in those cases...which means to follow state and local statutes in other jurisdictions. Soooo one by one, we literally called ALL the Attorney Generals in all states and came up with the same short list...those states did NOT permit us to sell long guns to their residents....
BTW, Montana does not permit the sale of handguns to non-residents...and are serious about that one.....

IIRC, it's is federal law that prohibits the sale of handguns to non-residents.

Actually what impressed me was their selection of archery accessories. Not top of the line but ok. And folding knives (unfortunately all chi-com as near as I could tell, but that's getting to be the case everywhere).

Not near the quality or selection of YGS, Bob Wards, Wholesale Sports, Big Sky Archery, or maybe some others (did not get to Northern Lights this trip), but for the average working Bozeman resident (which probably means two jobs), WM is at least someplace to stay in the game.
