I have long desired a savage 99 in 7-30 waters but have never run onto one. I have a project rifle or two chambered in 300 sav wondering if anyone here has done anything with necking it down? I know of the 270 sav but wondering about a 7-300 sav or maybe a 6.5-300 sav. Would like to here about personal experiences or thoughts. Maybe some one here has a 99 in such a critter or one in 7-30 they wish to sell. Thanks Chris

the bunch of the IMHSA series of wildcat cartridges are based on the .300sav cartridge. IIRC they come in most of the bullet diameters from 6mm- .35cal. again IIRC the .270 and 7mm are the more popular. "Cartridges of the World" has some pretty good info on them, but some info was cut in editing between some of the volumes. any of these should be able to function through the 99 and have load data available.

Howdy Steve I have seen a 219 or two and I remember your 35 rem, what about the 225 winchester? I guess I am trying to keep all of my wildcat rifles based on 4 or 5 different cases and in my head trying to decide between the 30-30 and the 300. I have wildcats based on the 348 win and 30-40 krag and 30-06 spring the way costs on ammo and supplies are going up I am trying to keep the list short. Thanks Chris

I've long had a hankering for a .35x.30/30 wildcat. Ballistics in line with a .35 Rem, with the added benefit of handling cast bullets better than the .35. Knew an old guy (sheesh, he was then as old as I am now. I want a do-over!) who re-bored a 340 Savage to .35/30 and man, would that gun shoot. He used 200 gr. cast bullets on deer and it was like the hammer of Thor hitting them.
Chris, your idea of keeping the 'cats in a few families of parent cases is a sound one. I think you're on the right track there. Given my druthers, I would go with cooking up something on the .30/30 case rather than the .300, but then again my tastes run counter to a lot of people's! In that vein, I would choose the 7/30 Waters.

Thanks The look of the rimmed cartridge has always appealed to me. I will look to the waters.

Good site for reloading info too
