I like all the people listed , but my favorite is Page.

I was lucky enough to see SRV twice. Once in '87 when he opened for Robert Plant. Once in '89 with Jeff Beck openning for him! WOW!

I'll give Thorogood his just dues. I even managed to get my kids to like him. They are into the heavy metal and usually don;t like when I listen to things like Kansas, Chicago, Boston, etc..

HA! When I was in high school a kid in my class did the announcements in the morning. One morning he decided to put in Hendrix' version of the Star Spangled Banner. Us kids loved it but the staff didn't. Craig was taken off announcement duty. LOL

Stevie or Hendrix? Well a good comparison between the two would be their renditions of "little wing". It's one of my all time favorite guitar songs and both rendetions are simply magical! Stevie's version has IMHO more crisp guitar work but Hendrick's does better on the vocals. IIRC Stevie's most played version has no lyrics. Stevie by a nose.

That's a tough one. I really like SRV, and really regret having not seen him in concer, when I had the chance.

Hendrix was an innovator, and one needs to give credit for that. SRV was a great guitarist, but he wasn't doing anything that hadn't been done before. Hendrix was out there doing really original stuff. I like both of them, and can't say one is better than the other.

I'm suprised no one mentioned Carlos Santana. I'd have to rank him as my favorite guitarist. He is the only guitarist I can think of that has a unique "voice" for his guitar playing. No one else sounds like him. Asside from the unique sound, his playing blows me away.

Santana can be a monster when he wants to be.Most of his recent stuff is somewhat bland compared to his earlier work.

To hear Santana at his very best, get the double live album Lotus. It is all insturmental exsept for Black Magic Woman and Oye Coma Va and Carlos' playing is absolutley incindiary.

A close second would be the Love Devotion Surrender album he did with John McLaughlin, though they are playing complex scales at warp speed-I get a head ache after about ten minutes.Good playing none the less though.

It's no coincidence that all three played together at various times,Duane and Eric more famously though (Layla).

Some of his(D Allmans) lesser known stuff is fantastic too.The solo at the end of Wilson Picketts "Hey Jude" is a standout. The stuff he did with King Curtis,Aretha,Johny Jenkins,Boz Skaggs "Loan Me A Dime". The anthology CDs are a GOTTA have IMO.

That's a great picture of Slowhand with a Firebird III ,I believe . I haven't seen that one before.

I saw ZZ-Top in Cleveland right after Deguella (?spell) came out. You know, when they were playing Blues. I think I was thirteen.

I was too young to see Duane, but I have seen the Allmans three times, and E.C. twice.

I'm very lucky to have grown up with three older brothers that have great taste in music.

I remember my first concert was when I turned twelve. It was BB King, Albert King and Bobby Blue Bland.

That's a Firebird 1 that Eric is playing-that was the cheapest model of Reverse Firebird they made, with just one mini-humbucker at the bridge and a wrap around tailpeice. This was his main guitar during the last Cream tour.He also used it a bunch with Blind Faith.

I've got a picture of early ZZ Top (from around the time of their first album),with Billy Gibbons playing one as well.

WB,

The III's must have had two pickups then. I always liked the V's with the crown inlay.

I think I saw you comment on the Blues Breaker album with EC. I agree. That is the greatest guitar tone of all time. I love that beef and sustain from the Les Paul through a Marshall combo! You can smell the tubes burning!

The Firebird III had two pickups and a funky little cheap combo bridge/vibrato and dot inlays. The V had two pickups, stop tail or Maestro vibrola and block inlays. The VII had three pickups,a Maestro and block inlays.

Yeah,on the Bluesbreakers album,Clapton had that Marshall JTM45 combo dimed. He did it because he was pissed at Mayall and was pitching a fit. They had to put the mike all the way across the room to get a clean recording of it.They later put horns on some of the tracks because they thought his playing was overbarring. He still drowned out the horns.

Hendrix is the man. He did most of what he did based upon his own imagination to guide him. All others who followed have had him as an example. He set the bar and a few have come close (SRV). I do think some are overated and a few really do not impress me. I've seen people get all up for some guitarists who I believe couldn't even tie Jimi's shoe laces. Good day.

Eric Clapton. Jeff Beck (live is awesome). Eddie. I heard that Gary Moore "Still got the Blues" but that was the only thing I liked outside of his Thin Lizzty Days. David Gilmore never gets mentioned - masterful. I saw Edgar Winter in my small home town last year - I don't remember the young guy playing guitar for him but holy cow was he something. Rick Derringer came with him and I was very impressed. See him if you get the chance - lotta fun. Who put Nugent in this group???

Shreck - if you heard Claptops version of Little Wing I bet you would like it even better. All three are amazing - has to be the best song ever written for that to happen.
