Heard this story this morning, the PA is thnking about filing charges against the home owner, I hope he rethinks this because he doesn't stand a chance of winning this one. http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/crime/story/872196.html
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

It figures, only a dumb ass trooper would wangle it into a crime.
So this statue makes it better for a man to kill the perpetrators in his house?
This is what happens to common sense. It dies before the State does any hiring.

The people posting comments at the paper's website all seem to have a clear view... . I have to say...if I found burglars carrying something out of my house and one of them pulled a pistol on me...I would likely react a little less kindly than that homeowner did. Umm...it's not the trooper thinking about going after the homeowner...its the DA. That would be a different person in a different organization. Dennis

Right, the trooper said he was not charging the homeowner with anything, seems like he's the only one that got it right. Apparently "DA" stands for something other than district attorney.......

According to the article, the DA hasn't made a decision yet. However he will review it, and if he believes the homeowner committed an offence, he/she may direct the police to issue the charge. Sounds like standard practice to me. At least you get to elect your DA. In Canada, they are hired or appointed.

No, there is a difference between DSMF and a DA, one lives here and the other does not.

You guys need to be thankful you don't have the 9th Circuit Court along the road to "justice".
I'm sure this case will turn out just fine as long as 1) it stays in Alaska, and 2) as long as there are Alaskans on the jury.

Just an add on klik, not a jury in anchorage. If it stays on the kenai he should be fine if it even goes that far.

(In spite of many good Alaskans living in the upper end of Cook Inlet, I think they have become out-numbered by some other kind of people. Which brings up the problem with living in a place which has good population numbers (low), it's easy to become out-numbered.)

No, there is a difference between DSMF and a DA, one lives here and the other does not. I thought that DSMF also included those that have fairly recently moved to AK. That is what I was wondering: Is the DA a recent transplant? I've also been told (by Alaskans) that sometimes "DS" refers to a geographical origin, and that sometimes it refers to a reduced state of mental competency. It was also noted that if the former applies, then the latter is usually true as well Scott

Most DAs are transplants and none seem to have a clue about the bush. I can only think of one that worked our area that was Alaskan and had a basic understanding of the villages. As soon as you think you've got one tuned to your locale and can work with them easy enough, they rotate them out and you start over again.
