One gets all kinds of colors among fallow deer. Not too unusual at all.

Axis are typically spotted, and have antlers more similar to elk (single beam with forward projections, no palmation). Those are fallow deer.

Of course, you are right, i should have thought of that. That's the only explanation that makes sense. The guy who took the pic said they have been wandering around his town. Either he was pulling our legs or something got out of someone's pen.

They are clearly not whitetail and I hope they are not wandering around the countryside; escaped from someones pen. Ugh, I hate introduced species (yet I pheasant hunt). I'm such a hypocrite. :P

I see some high fence in the background.
Actually had a spotted fallow buck on our S. TX lease once. I passed, but it was never seen again. Probably BBQ shortly after it was out of my sight. He did have a green tag in his ear. Rancher's wife surprised me by saying she knew the ranch it escaped from and hoped nobody shot it. I am glad I didn't pop him for the meat and hide. I saw several good whitetail bucks there Sat. evening (one really big one) and always want to stay on her good side!

Definately Fallow bucks. The colour variations are a reflection on thier origin. Here are some interesting bits and pieces on the Fallow. http://www.deeralliance.ie/pdfs/fallow.pdfVon Gruff.

They're all fallow deer. Typical color schemes are white, black, and brown with spots. That black one has some palmation, he's just young and the frontal angle is poor viewing.
Google "Texas exotics" and you'll probably find them all.
I think they have cool factor and I would love to hunt them in a fair chase situation.
