I dunno las she must have not fished very much around Byers, certainly the trails up above the lake won't have much, but the creeks around that area have been known to hold some beautiful rainbows.
or so I've been told. (grin)

That's a bird, Mike. Did it flip?

I was perusing a chart not long ago showing bear attacks vs. group size (I think from Herrero's research), and once you get 5 or more people together the chance of a bear attack disappears. Keep a clean camp, stick together, and have a blast. Can't imagine a better adventure for a troop of scouts.

in scouting, firearms can only be used at an approved BSA camp. And the instrucor has to be BSA trained.
NO guns on scout outings, no matter whether adults or not. I think you might find that even if you had a licensed guide with you, Scouting would have issues, especially if something were to happen involving the gun.
The leader does NOT have to be BSA trained, but rather NRA trained. I always carry heat on scout outings. I am discrete about it but there is a responsibility to look out for the safety of the boys too. If one of the boys gets shot, BSA insurance won't pay-big deal. Don't let anyone get shot! As an aside, even at camp, a scout is not allowed to shoot anything but a rim-fire rifle- a single shot!

If it were me, I would contact a troop or local council head quarters in the Anchorage area. If anyone knows where to take counts on a trip they will. Lou

The Alaska Council offers a week long high adventure program. That's the first place I would check.

Maybe the BSA changed their policy but when I was a kid and as far as I know they still do - the area council we were in sponsored BSA only hunts etc...and we were allowed to carry guns. Things change tho.

My late dad ran a Boy Scout Explorer post in the 50's and the main theme was shooting, gunsmithing and hunting!
Perhaps the rules have changed or we were not aware of a rule?
If indeed there is a 'rule' can the trip be done without being a scout event?
We went on camping trips to rural areas and a lot of shooting went on there.
Most of the guys grew up to be gun enthusiasts and one became a professional scouter.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Here is a picture of us meeting at the Elks Lodge where my dad was a member. From the left my late dad, a buddy getting his Eagle. He went on to be a professional scouter. Next myself and the rest of us gun guys.
