I don't mean to turn this thread but Namibia, part of greater Southern Africa, maybe is radically different but somewhat the same. I spent some time in Windhoek and the concertina wire and other security equipment, very visible, was around all the homes of the white folk--I was told. Also, the government had a hand in any selling of any farm (owned mostly by white folks) which as I understood it had its good points as well as bad for the seller.

Won't be long for ol' bamer resorts to some similiar rationale to "redress the outrage of slavery".

If you think about it, you'd have to be pretty optimistic to think that tens of thousands of years of savagery and cannibalism would be changed by a few hundred years of European civilization.

If you want to hunt Africa, I'd suggest you go now, rather than later. That whole continent is going to turn into one big bloody kill-zone in a decade or so. Its already been happening in individual countries for 20 years or so. Once RSA and Nambia falls look out.

Puddle,

I just read an article about a US journalist who has been living and working in Jo'burg. In her story she tells how she is terrified in her own house. She and her family have been robbed at gun point 3 times, and that was at the entrance to their house where they have automatic gates, etc. In one instance, she and her father had just pulled into their drive, when several men with AKs robbed them and stole their car. Another time, they were just pulling out of the drive, when they were blocked by a van full of armed men. Again they lost all their valuables and their car.

Most frightening of all, was when she woke in the middle of the night with the sounds of a gunfight in her kitchen. Some armed men had broken into their house, and fortunately their alarm alerted the police in time for them to shoot it out with the burglers in the ladies kitchen.

If you take the assignment, I sure would go by myself and not take the family. Rape and murder are a way of life there. And the laws are so screwy, that if you kill a burgler who broke into your house, you can wind up in jail for the rest of your life.

Good luck.

You Texans gave up the right to secede, originally contained in the 1845 treaty, as a condition of rejoining the union after the Civil War.

the former sa government aka the apartheid regime ,so called by the us government amongst others, warned the world that this( lawlessness) is going to happen. even Ronald Reagan and M. Thatcher agreed to this yet more black people are killed(NOW!!!) due to crime every two months( read this again: it says every 2 MONTHS) than the whole rule of apartheid over killede in 40 years. nobody is saying apartheid was good but on paper the longevity of a black man was better under apartheid rule, than the new liberated s-africa.

"this doesnt sit well with the new anc government yet the crime statistics cant lie": The BBC.

having said all this you would be none the wiser booking with a well respected PH picking you up at the airport taking you to a hunt and back at the airport in say 10 days. it seems that crime tends to shy away from guys packing bigger guns.: ie hunters

A recent conversation that I had with a friend with a bachelors in history and a masters in political science was if that treaty is actually legally binding and if it is hasn't the federal government already broken it. I am sure we have some contract lawyers here that can shed some light on how binding a contract with a gun to your head is.

Interesting thought.

Look how rapidly the Soviet Union broke up.

No US court has ever ruled on whether secession is legal or not.

buffhunter,

For sure I would not take the family! The current thinking is to work the job non-stop, then when it's completed spend the next 6 weeks or so bouncing around southern Africa. The last 2 weeks of hunting my family would fly over to tag along.

Just gotta get someone to line it all up for me....

What kind of help do you need, I can pull anything you want together with any time frame you need. I have so much going on there now with many different people and operations I can help you with just about anything you could want to do.

Puddle,

I would do that. Just be sure and hook up with an outfitter/tour you can trust.

Good luck and happy hunting.

buffhunter,

Will do - I tried to do the same thing going from Bulgaria to Turkey - but couldn't pull it off.

Jim,

Thanks! When the job is a go I'll give you a shout. It may end up being the worst time of the year for hunting, but the worst day hunting is better than the best day at work... whistle

Zim????

Zim what????

I seem to remember a fine and civilized country to the North of RSA...Rhodesia....

A country that in the end was abandoned by both the US and RSA. Read Ian Smith's book.

From Kenya to RSA, Angola to Mozambique its a tale of waste and savagery.

And so bloody sad.

It all could have been prevented.

But sadly, certain Western governments reached between their legs and found.....NOTHING!

Oddly enough (and sadly) the one thing that may "save" southern Africa is AIDS. There are many places where the population is now dropping due to the disease, even entire countries. The people who are dying are almost entirely blacks, so as the trend continues (and it is accelerating) pretty soon there won't be enough people to lead the various "revolutions," or take over white-owned land.

One of the reasons for the economic chaos in much of southern Africa is over-population, which increasingly pits the various tribes against each other. Kenya, for instance, has increased from 3 million people in the 1950's to over 40 million, with no real economy to support that many people. The question has become whether AIDS will eventually kill enough people to return some balance before they kill each other.

One of my new co-workers is an immigrant from SA. He is shocked to read that the new SA president said that if you washed after sex, you wouldn't get AIDS. My co-worker figures this joker is really going to harm his former country.

That's a step up from the previous president, who publicly stated even worse nonsense, including that AIDS was a plot hatched by white people.

I believe he also claimed that condoms cause AIDS, though I could be wrong about that. I do know quite a few black Africans believe that, however, offering the "proof" that there wasn't any problem with AIDS before foreign countries started sending free condoms to South Africa. Another goodie is the claim that having sex with a virgin girl will cure AIDS.

One of the big problems of AIDS is that it mostly affects people of working age, 15 to 50 or so. A lot of companies in South Africa are having a real hard time keeping workers.

I've heard everything that Mule Deer posted when I was in southern Africa.

The official statistics in RSA are that 40% of the population is HIV positive, according to my PH there. I don't think Zim has statistics. But my PH also thinks that they are breeding faster than they are dying of AIDs.
