Getting a little thin up top. Anyone use Rogain? success? Cautions? I heard when it first came out that you had to use it forever if you ever started. Any other similar but better products?

Don't mix it with Viagra, or one may suffer from Don King syndrome.

This is what I use. Cost from $5 to $30 or free if you purchase items in bulk from certain companies.

Embrace it - shave it off - be done with it! Seriously!

I started loosing mine quite young - and it was traumatic - for me anyways!

I went through the "trying to hide it" phase with hairstyle modifications re: "combovers". I became a "hat-head", I tried using Rogain for the better part of a year,at least until I realized it wasn't going to give me Micheal Landon, thick, "drive the girls crazy" type of hair anyways - more like glorified longish peach-fuzz - and I could use the money I was spending on it on a whole lot better things.

I started with a battery powered hand-held set of cippers - and over the course of a year or so got people (and myself) used to seeing me with shorter and shorter hair.

One day - after taking the guard off (I was already at "Level 1 - the closest level) to blow out the accumulated hair - the phone rang. I stopped what I'd been doing and had a long conversation. When I got back and picked up where I'd left off I ran a bare path up the side of my head! "Sh*t! I forgot the damn guard!" What was I to do?I was used to "short" - but I still wasn't ready for "clean". So I got out the gel, and a blade, and shaved my head smooth - and just pretended that I had done it on purpose.

I started getting so many compliments on how much better I looked "clean" that I took to fixing the one remaining problem - the lack of pigment up there. Over time it eventually tanned enough to match my head and the "chemotherapy look" vanished.

It changed my life for the better! Dramatically. In a huge way (I was single at the time) and going "clean" made a huge difference to me while involved in the dating scene.

I can't tell you how much better I felt about my looks and not having to keep "my secret" hidden all the time. Most guys who wear hats all the time are almost paranoid about people seeing them without them. They take to wearing them all the time - and it's not a good thing.

My wife actually said she would never have persued the relationship if I had hair. This (believe it or not) is the look she fell in love with.

I can't tell you how many guys I've convinced to "go clean" - and each of them says it's like a huge weight was lifted off of their shoulders once they did it - and tanned it - and got used to it - admittedly it does take time to adjust.

Now I get a chuckle at all the guys I know who are fretting about their own hair loss - or about how fast they are going grey. I'll never be grey! My looks haven't changed all that much in the past 10 years - a few more lines and wrinkles - that's all. But as Betty Davis once said "Getting old ain't for sissies!" Getting old beats the hell out of the alternative too!

Just my own advice - from one who lived through it.

There's some stuff out there that works for certain.

I've had more experience with Nioxin and have seen guys regenerate hair growth on top and in the crown, but if it's MPB where the natural recession above the eyes that most men have to some degree or another, you'd have just as much luck growing hair on a billiard ball.

Have some "faithful" Nioxin users and that's the key word, you gotta be religious with any of that type stuff.

I can like BCB's advice (though hard for me to make any $$$ off that chit, grin)

have always thought that's what I'd do if afflicted, but all my lousy hair is still up there.

the other option is hair transplant, have two clients that have had it done, haven't asked about cost.

both guys have had it done more than once, two different clinics, one certainly seems preferable to me. I usually remove their stitches for them now rather than them going to a doc and one of the guys is a doctor.

tis a personal thing and only you can decide which avenue is right for you, and yeah initially it sucks I suppose to realize you're losing your covering, but millions of guys function just fine and it ain't cancer.

lose your hair? no prob, just don't lose your moxie cause some hair is falling out, that is a problem.

good luck, and don't sweat the small stuff

Heck, I been doing the "buzz" cut for years cause I sure ain't gonna spend money on vanity. Sides you no longer need shampoo and other hair care products, just bar soap & a wash cloth. The only reason I wear a hat is to keep the sun off and to shade my eyes when I am outside.

Already decided that when I reach the point where my parking spaces (an old friends euphemism for those bald spots that start at the temples and work their way back) become an empty lot, that it will be the smooth look for me too. Probably not more than a few years away before I get there. At least I made it to 40 with most of my hair.

You have to keep re-applying Rogain (and others like it).

Calculate what this will cost you for the rest of your life... it will likely be enough to pay for a safari to Africa! Seriously... it will not pay for a dangerous game safari, but plains game anyway! smile

On the other hand, BCBRian only invests in a few razor blades per month...

... and yet BCBrian has managed to attract a wife with the cutest ass you ever did see! Clean seems the way to go! grin

(check out the thread on "my wife's ass" or something like that) smile

those drugs aren't exactly side-effect free.

I don't have nearly enough ego to bother with "products" or (God forbid) "cornrows" grin

and I'm living proof you don't need hair to snag a hot chick wink

Who needs hair when you got skin as pretty as mine.

I went prematuraly bald many years ago, and was devestated.

There was no Rogain or any other options to cure baldness in those days.

In desparation I finally encountered a Doctor in Tiawanna Mexico who performed a transplant operation by grafting my armpit hair unto the top of my head.

This has worked very well for me, except for extremely hot sweaty summer days ...

Then it gets all matted.
