I just obtained a new Rem Ti in .308 and would like to hear from you guys as to your favorite hunting loads for that particular combination. I have been a long time user of Nosler Partitions and BTs, but would like to try the Barnes x or triple shock bullets. Any information is appreciated.

I think a 140-165 X would be very good as well as a 150-168 TSX.

If I had a true lightweight like a titanium I would be tempted by the 140 X.

Try 45gr of IMR4064 under the Hornady 150gr flat bases. Works great in my 308.

What do you plan to hunt and how far? I love my Whitworth and VLS in 308. I use them for deer and pigs. BTW, where in the Piney Woods? I hunt in Central/ South Texas and the heaviest animals we have the occasion to take is Axis. They are tough animals, but not extremely heavy (200-240 on the hoof). I have tried several loads with BT's, but did not get satisfactory grouping.

I'm going to make a "cheaper" suggestion. 1st for our hunting I don't think you need "premium bullets." I basicaly hunt Mason south, so we hunt much the same territory. I use 150 Power Points., loaded with 47gns of Varget. It's a max load by the book so the regular caveats apply. They shoot 2775 in my 24" barrel. They will shoot 1.25" or better groups in my gun. they are supurb on our deer and pigs to 200yds. After that they fall off because they have the BC of a grape. Another advange that they have is that they shoot to the same POI as Milsurp in my gun which incourages practice. Hard to beat the Hornady 150gr Interbond bullet with RL-15,Lapua case and BR-2 Primers for a hunting load. No big trick to get 2900 fps out of the 22" ti barrel. I've killed a couple deer and assorted vermin with that load and couldn't ask for more out of a 308ti.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of groups did you get with that load and did you chrono the velocity? I would like to see reasonable groups of 1.5" and 2900fps is very good. The 150gr Interbond was one of the bullets that I was considering. The reason for looking at the "harder" bullets was for more penetration. The Axis bucks that we are taking are very seldom penetrated from side to side. Therefore, we are not having very good blood trails and some have been getting away after being hit solid. That is according to some of the other guys that I hunt with. I personally have not had any problems with 130gr BT out of a 270Winny. The ones I have taken have fallen to the shot in their tracks.

After bedding 8 lbs of tip pressure in the forend I'm getting .7-.9" 3 shot groups out of my 308ti. I did chrono but my load manual is in the shop. I believe it averaged 2925fps. The Interbond is heap big medicine out of a 308...

165 Deepshok over 46 grains of varget for about 2775 fps. from a 22 inch barrel. I almost cried when I heard the deepshok was gone but found what seems like the last couple boxes in existence. After wacking a bunch a stuff in the 200-300 pound range I am convinced it is one of the best bullets to ever be offered. The closest thing I can compare it to is a little softer than the Aframe and tougher than most of the interbonds. Cant beat the price either at $15 per 100.

I appreciate all the info... I am in the process of bedding the action and anticipate doing a full length bed job. I have never bedded with forearm pressure before. How do you measure the pressure to end up with a designated poundage?

TxDep, I went real high tech last time on a model 7. I made a pressure point by creating a dam about two inches back from the forend tip and pored in the appropriate about of epoxy (think it was JB weld), then I sucked that action down into the stock (Wildcat composites) at 60 pounds (Holland pillar bed kit). Now with the rifle fully assembled I suspended a one gallon jug of water from the sling stud with some fishing line. The extra epoxy oozed out and when it was cured I was left with about 9 pounds of pressure on the forend tip. This is still not enough pressure to eliminate a change in point of impact with a tight sling but from shooting sticks it provides the same point of impact as a sandbag rest. For info without the forend bedded sticks vs sandbags were about a 3 moa difference horizontially.

Thanks for the info. I read on another thread how shimming will give a quick test and found that useful also. I'll be testing soon and will probably have to have forearm pressure for that light barrel.
