is the Eberlestock just one pack worth paying that much for? I'm looking for a great pack and I don't mind spending that kind of money for a pack, and they seem to be one of the few that have a gun scarrab. I will be using it mainly as a day pack but I will have to pack in a base camp. please help!! thanks in advance Jnoel

jnoel, I think you need to define your use to answer that question. If you are JUST looking for a day pack, I'd argue that the Eberlestock pack is on the side of being excessively heavy and large. If you need just one pack for everything though.....I think that is a pretty fair choice. I just wrote an article for my buddies web-site at www.elk101.com entitled, "Lose that boat anchor you call a pack" that speaks to this issue somewhat. I've certainly been wrong before, but where day packs are concerned I've about tried them all. It futher illustrates my thoughts on the matter. Best of luck with whatever you choose. Dave

Welcome to the Campfire Jnoel. The whole back pack subject has been hammered out here a LOT, so I'd pour yourself a cup of coffee and start enjoying the old posts. Lots of good info.

If you're packing a camp in and (hopefully) an animal out, you cannot beat the Mystery Ranch Crew Cab. It's a daypack that can comfortably carry upwards of 80-100 lbs. Much better choice overall than the Eberlestock.
If you want to add a weapon carrying system, check out the Kifaru gunbearer......about $30.

If it fits you I would not hesitate recomending Eberlestock products. I would go the 107 route though due to its ability to adjust the harness and it is beefier on the frame. They make a good product and are well layed out.
Good Shooting!

I had an X1 and I sold it, stepped up to a used J104 I have been fooling around fitting it. I got it pretty darn comfortable now and I like it. I did not want to spend that much for a crew cab or a Kifaru. Although I may later. I think are well built packs certainly will last a long time however they are a bit heavy.
