Ughhh! It's like going to look at a violin and coming home with a banjo. Nice banjo though! Randy

The 99 was a high priced rat.

Luv those Marlin 22s! Too bad Savage never made one for the competition. Wouldn't have been a contest....

You're gonna like that one. They are really fun little rifles to shoot, and so much better than anything made today. Looks like an exceptionally clean one.

Nice one Romac. They're usually tackdrivers too.

The Cadillac of .22 lever guns. Can't go wrong with one. Foolishly traded my 1949 vintage 39A for something which I can't even remember what it was. Add that one to the "wish I had back" pile.

I've still got my first gun (a model 39 Marlin Mounty). Paid a dollar a week for it. I was 14 at the time & am 70 now. The gun is like new, but I don't have a box or any paperwork that may have come with it at the time.

I have 4 of the original model 39 22's. They are great little rifles ,case colored receivers tang sights on 3 of them, the only drawback on the early rifles they should not be used with high velocity ammo, the bolt gave problems with it . Only standard velocity ammo should be shot in them. The later 39A rifles have a stronger bolt and have no problems with high velocity ammo. marlin did have a winner with this little lever gun. Don

Luv those Marlin 22s! Too bad Savage never made one for the competition. Wouldn't have been a contest.... Both Marlin and Savage made rimfire pumps, then again, so did just about every major manufacturer in that period. Now if there was a way to make a 10-shot rotary-magazine rimfire based on the 99....that would have been all kinds of awesome.

Mr. Ruger stole that idea and ran with it. Can't believe Savage didn't think of it first.
