Anyone using Federal mag rifle primers? I have access to buy some wondering how they match up to CCI magnum primers? Are they any hotter ? will they affect the bullestics if using CCI magnum primers? Any help would be appreciated!

215's are hotter than CCI 250's and Win Mag is the very hottest by far.
I use all three in different loads. In my large guns, when the primer pockets get loose with the 215's, the Win Mag will be very tight, but will require a slight variation in the load.

I use both Win LR Mags and Federal 215s in my 45-70 BP loads. They both light up the BP just fine. Never got around to trying out the CCIs, so can't make a comparison.

In buring hottnes as follows:
CCI 250 Coolest Fed 215 Winchester Magnum Hottest of all.
In my experience, the Fed 215 is quite a bit hotter than the CCI 250, work up your loads accordingly.

Keith Thanks for the info - where did you find a list of 'hotness' for primers? I've always wondered about that.

CRounds, friend did a lot of R and D for many of the gunmakers and ammo makers around the world. I verified this in my own experience. My friend actually took pictures of the primers at ignition, took pictures and published them in Precision Shooting Magazine.
