Wondering about powder availability in town...would like to mule some powder home, but wonder if there's enough powder in several choices to make hauling prepped cases in worthwhile. I suppose I should ask about primers as well - large rifle.

Great Northern has CCI primers if those will work. Nobody seems to have powder.

No powder at all? I was at least hoping to find some medium-slow; heard the 4350s were hard to find, so H414/W760, RL 19, and possibly 7828; even one of the quicker rifle powders would be useful. I think I have enough cases ready for around 5 pounds of power. (Wasn't planning to clean anyone out, but the shortage hardly pays to do an air HAZ/MAT - that would make some of the crazy Gunbroker stuff look like child's play!)Thanks for the info.

Its seems to be a crapshoot anymore. You can walk into XYZ store one day and they have a few cases of some rifle powder, then you go back three days later and its gone, or only oddball stuff left. I have seen RL19 at Boondocks and Sportsmans, Steve at Alaska Custom Firemarms has lots of RL17. Have also seen WW760 here and there. Have not seen any 4350's or 4831's. Me thinks if you make the rounds from Anc to Eagle River, you will come up with a few lbs of the med-slow stuff.

Klikitarik,
Bet I could get my hands on 3 to 5 lbs of Rel 19 but it's down in Kenai...
Not sure how that might work out for you? I might have a friend heading up to Las Anchorage but could not get my hands on more than two lbs. until Monday the 10th, midday.
PM me if any of this might be of help to you...

Great Northern had two cases of RL19 on Friday. They also had three cases of AA2230.
Mountainview has several different powder choices.
If you make it to Anchorage and you can't find what you need, I've probably got at least some of what you want. I'll share. I can buy more later as it becomes available. PM me with what you need. I also have a pretty good stock of primers.
There's also a guy (dealer) in Wasilla who had probably 200 pounds of one pounders at the gunshow last weekend. I don't believe he sold out. He was in the $25-$30/lb range on most of the powder. He says he has a good stockage at his store. Northland Guns 232-2509

I appreciate all the helpful advice. I managed to find and pour 5 pounds of powders into my "mule" cases so, hopefully, TSA, etc, will not interfere with what they say is allowed. (They instill neither confidence nor a sense of security that they are alleged to be the great protectors of.) BTW, no RL 19 at Great Northern at the moment, but they do have some RL17 as well as RL 7. They also still have A2230 as well as A2495. There was also a few pounds of shotgun powder - Steel-something I think. It's all good; that portion of my trip to town has been successful. Thanks again.

I bought some large rifle and magnum primers there in June. They would only sell 500 primers per customer, per day, so I got two guys in the store who were there to buy fishing gear to buy 500 each. When the clerk saw what I was doing, he smiled and went ahead and let me buy 2000. Not much to choose from as far as powder goes.
