Ok..here goes...looking to get my feet wet in the AR game,What does the group consider the best bang for the buck in a starter rifle? Looking for something that wont cripple the budget..but is well made. Like the feel & handling of the 16" carbines..this will mainly be a house gun/blaster....

your .02.........

Thanks in advance

I think there are many brands and models that qualify depending on the deal presented. I usually look first at DPMS, Bushmaster, Doublestar, and Stag. Being a lefty, my next purchase will likely be a Stag. My son has a Doublestar and a Bushy.

Couldn't go wrong with a DPMS as a starter AR on a budget.....

I am biased, but you can't do much better than have your FFL order from Spike's Tactical.

Don't forget S&W! That or RRA would be my 1st choice in a starter AR-15.

Careful some of those folk have trained and fought with the best and just might know what they're talking about.

If someone wants to base all they're worth on a cheap gun, let them but do not thumb your nose at guys who know better.

Well, not sure of the perfect entry level AR, but I've seen prices from $750. to $1200. & up.

Not so sure why its necessary to protect a house with a weapon that can easly blow thru walls and maybe cause colateral damage when a pistol or shotgun with buckshot might be a more applicable for close range situations...

With the right ammo, it actualy penetrates less than a 9MM pistol or buckshot. Lots of advances have been made...

Just go down to the gunshop and pick one you like and buy it. Contrary to what you'll read on most of these forums, the majority of them are accurate and reliable.

I'm in a similar boat. Thinking a 20" Bushy with A3 and standard stock would be a good way to go. I was also looking at the Remmy version, R-15, can I add and an A3 handle and front sight assembly to this rig???

Thanx!
