I am looking for down 0 degree bag for backcountry hunting. I would prefer something right around 3 lbs or lighter. Here's my question...most long bags are 'rated' for someone up to 6'6". I am 6'8", 239 lbs, 46" chest, fairly lean (workout-aholic).
The bags I was looking at were the Marmot Lithium, GoLite Venture...will I fit comfortably in a bag rated for someone up to 6'6"? I am currently deployed to Iraq and won't return til mid Nov so I cannot go out and try them on. Anyone 6'7" or 6'8" out there that has suggestions on bags and fit for me??? thank fellaz!

Wow...I thought I had it bad at 6'6". You might look at Big Agnes bags also. I have a lost ranger and there is enough room from me to throw some clothes at the bottom. Good luck.

Western Mountaineering makes some bags designed for people up to 7'. The Kodiak is probably the one you'd want. It's 0 degrees -- that's probably conservative -- and weighs 3 lbs. 1 ounce in the seven foot version which is amazingly light given its size. The Badger is available in that length as well at under three pounds and rated for 15 degrees.

is the 7' the length of the bag (84") or made for folks up to 7' ?

I also believe Feathered Friends will make a bag for the overly tall

Integral Designs is also another manufacturer that will make a bag to custom length and 3 different widths. A down bag custom made, your probably talking the better part of a grand, a PrimaLoft bag in a custom size could cut the price in half...

I doubt anyone is going to stock that size in the WM bags but the Bent Gate up in Golden (I know that's far from you) carries the WM line if you want to handle one in person. They'll order in what you want but it can take a while. The owner Greg is a friend of mine, good guy. They have a web site as well.

www.hermitshut.com is where I've bought my last two WM bags... they're right up the street from where they're made and usually stock everything. They also throw in overfill for free which is a real bonus. At your height, for a good three season bag, I'd do a Badger with a Microfiber shell and overfill...

what is the purpose of overfill? Just more down?

Jason, the idea is it maximizes the fill in each "tube" or "chamber" of the sleeping bag, adding a slight warmth advantage but also a bit more bag life. I've owned four WM bags and have gotten overfill in every one of them. WM ranks absolutely top-drawer in my book and the Hermits Hut, being just down the road from the maker and having a long-standing relationship with them, is the place to buy WM IMO...

I'd like to know what backpacking tent you are using as I am 6-4" and am having a hell of a time finding one to fit in. Thanks
Why is it called a double u, should'nt it be called a double v?

b/c of my gumby size I have to pic a tent a lil heavier so I can comfortably fit in. I am a gear junkie...i have a few tents.
REI Qtr Dome (rated for 2 person but really 1 and gear) (tent floor is 90" in length) - 6 lbs
Mtn Hardware - Lightwedge 3 - 96" length, good for two big guys and gear - slightly over 7 lbs
considering a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight as a solo backcountry tent - 89" long - slightly under 4 lbs

I'm not tall like you folks (only 6') but the Kifaru Supertarp/Paratipi offers an awful lot of room to stretch out if you don't mind a floorless style. Light too.

i am looking at the possibility of a tipi and stove as well. Like I said earlier, I am a gear nut.
