Got my first elk of the year Monday August 17th. 1 Dead Elk 1 Dead Bike 1 ME still alive..... I was doing 55mph when he leaped up from a drop off shoulder and landed square in front of me... barely even got to the brakes before t-boning him right in the gut. I walked off but had to go to get my spleen removed and my knee is tweeked but other than that doing great and will strike my revenge come November. Headed down to the police station this afternoon I hope they took some pictures of him. If so I will post them.. Weapon not of choice 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000.... 125CU 2053cc beautiful cruiser now looks like this.
Where is that wascally Wapiti?

WOW....you're lucky to still be here. That could have been really bad for you. It sucks about the bike but the more damage it sustains, the less you do.That's what insurance is for.
I'd love to see the crash scene pics.
Did you drop him in his tracks?
And does this mean I should take my Kawi this year instead of my 7mm-08? Lots of foot pounds and apparently no "overpenetration".....

Jesus!! Glad you are ok and not more seriously hurt. Amazing you walked away from that. My cousin hit one in his 18 wheeler at about 55mph and it totaled his rig and trailer. Post the pics if you get them. Amazing. Glad you are ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Man, that's rough. At least you're alive, and seemingly repairable.

Glad you are recovering. I learned long ago, to get off of the gas and put my foot on the brake whenever I see a large mammal, like a deer, near the road. Since they have their eyes on the side of their head, not in front, like we and the predators do, they can't judge closure rates well. What happens is they wait too long and then jump in front of us. I've seen it happen over and over. So I just expect it and make ready. Best of luck in November. E

DId you get all the seat leather out of your butt crack? That's some serious pucker factor.
Not too many folks are lucky enough to walk away from something like that. Good to see you are not any worse for wear.

Yea Bronc wow glad to hear your ok.
Another bike story a friend of my got hit ridding on his bike and it broke his ankle. He was clipped by a big horn sheep it a hit his bike as it jumped down a embankment on a ride bank from Reno on the Hwy. Man the animals are after you bikers.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.
