257Bob and you others - What is wrong with an A-Bolt??!!?? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Regards, sse In a word.... Fugly. And that's without the BOSS attached, then it's really fugly. To make matters worse I think Savage's are acceptable in the looks category.... The A-Bolt doesn't even pass my admittedly loose cosmetic standards. They may shoot great though....

There are 3 categories of hunting rifles.
1. The model 98 (superior design) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
2. The Mannlicher-Schoenauer (superior quality) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
3. Everything else (an insult to my intelligence and wallet) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
I will no longer own a rifle in the last category. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I happen to love lever guns, and bolts etc. BUT, I would not own, in order of unimportance:
1) Remington 710
2) Remington 742.7400 etc
3) Remington 760, 7600 etc.
4) Charter Arms anything
5) A BOSS equiped rifle

I will not own any rifle that has no iron sights. This includes 90% of the generic Remchester hunting rifles sold at gun stores. Aside from the lack of iron sights, these rifles strike me as utterly soulless, boring and pointless. And too expensive too boot. Why pay $800 for some same-old scoped hunting rifle when you can get a tack-driving K-31 for $90?

I don't suppose there is any rifle I just wouldn't own. I mean, if the price is right.... There are some I wouldn't pay retail for, though. Remington Savage anything other than a bolt gun

Absolutely anything that has a muzzle brake. I also won't hunt with anyone that carries a rifle with a muzzle brake. For anyone that wonders about that go to your local rifle range and stand along side someone with say a muzzle braked .338 mag - Oh and recommend you take off your muffs to get the full effect - instant hearing damage.

Sporters built on WW II era and earlier receivers, like M-98s, M-96s, Enfields, Springfields etc. I wouldn't mind owning an original as an un-altered collector piece, but these old receivers have no place in a modern chambering. Now, an M-98 built of modern steel with the full inner receiver ring is a different story.....................
M-70s
Rem 710
A-Bolts
Pretentious rifles. These are rifles built as pieces of art, not tools for hunting

Not being a gun snob there is not any gun I can think that I would refuse to own if the price were rite. That dosen't mean I would keep just any rifle. I would not go out of my way to own an SKS or a MAC 90 (AK). But I know that if I bought at the rite price I can turn a profit . Which is what I do. I have only bought one new gun in the past twenty years and almost all of my guns have been financed through gun trading, buying and selling. i will not buy, trade for or even be given any gun made by AMT I have owned two of these things so I feel that I can speak from expirance. One was the 22 mag the other the 30 carbine both semi auto hand guns both belong in the class of products under the heading POS. Not rifles but I wouldn't bother with any of AMT's junk.

Hello,
Why no A-Bolts. They have tang safety, 60 degree bolt throw, and box magizine. These maybe all things you dont like. Still everyone i have seen is accruate, and has functioned well.
My gun smith doesnt like them. Still i have talked to many that have nothing bad to say about them. I was actually thinking of getting one in either 7mm stw, or 300 rem ultra mag and converting to a light wieght 8mm Rem mag. Although i am considering a Sako action as well.

I've had 3 AMT's and retain two. Their S/S 22lr Ruger clone auto, was fabulous IMHO. Their S/S 10/22 knockoffs were/are pretty damned good IMHO,as well(I still have them).
So I can like AMT pretty well...............
