243 across the board for everything!
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

OK since you clarified that makes it easier....sorta.....
My favorite class of rifle is the "dual purpose" That means to me a cartridge adequate for any deer or black bear I'll ever see, and also efficient and easy to shoot for larger varmints, IE 'yotes, jackrabbits, and the stray wolvarrillo.
For 20+ years this cartridge has been either the 25-06 or the Bob with a (slight) nod going to the 25-06. The 25-06 has currently been replaced in my ever-changing battery by a 6.5x284. It is not yet my all time fave.......but it threatens to unseat the long time champ 25-06.
Of course, I'd have something bigger and something smaller as well, but the DP rifle is the one that would cover 80% of my needs.

257AI: I hunt deer. With 115-120gr bullets, this cartridge gives me the effectiveness of a 270 (perfect for deer, right), and the recoil is just light enough that I can see the reaction of the deer to the hit.

If I could only hunt in this state a 7-08 but for being able to hunt elsewhere a 30-06.

"It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds.
If you are a hunter, and farther than that, get closer!

Put another hash mark in the 7mm Mag column. Too many memories caused by that round for me to even think about another.

Sooner or later our heritage of hunting is going to be a rich mans sport and the words "Outfitter" and "Hunt Industry" will be synonymous with cancer and A.I.D.S. among blue collar hunters like me and my family! (A.L. Williams - 2010)

.280 Rem and .284 Win - 1 each. One for morning and one for evening. They will take anything I will be hunting for the rest of my days without the mag recoil. My first love was a 7 mag though

If it gets better than a 22lr,I'm unaware of the flavoring...................

Spad,
Look. You need to quit being so dogmatic and narrow-minded. You should be willing to expand your horizons and use more than just one brand of rifle...............

I really like the 300 Win. I also really like the 338 Win. However, my 416 Rem is my favorite, though not the most practical................................

If I could own only one, it would be a .308 Win. For a center fire rifle. But if there were no rules, it would be a 12 gauge , and in a Model 12 Winchester with a Cutts compensator so I could change for Buck shot , bird shot or slugs.
A firearm of such fame as was ever bestowed such, and one of which I have in my gun room.
The 12 gauge is the KING of cartridges, will do absolutly anything to anything in a pinch, and sometimes better than anything else! A M12 with a cutts is so UGLY, however, that my kid has named mine "Ugly Gun", a name of which I am very proud, I might add!

For ALL purpose the .357 magnum. Fits in my revolver and in my Marlin carbine, and with different loads will function for everything from plinking and small game through personal defense all the way up to deer.

townsend whelen considered the rifle to be the queen of personal weapons....
i'll second that, and nominate the savage 99 in .300 savage as the queen of sporting rifles.....
loaded 130 rounds last night, and used them all today..... this rifle with the aperture sight begs to be shot offhand, and rewards the shooter for doing so.....
one of the young guys today picked my savage up and went 18/20 on a 3 1/2" steel plate, standing, offhand at 65 yds... he was 11/11 with the plate hanging from chains.... 7/9 with it laying in the grass..... john w

Come on guys. Make 1 choice (I know it is hard).
A .30-'06 can do it all in North America(150, 165, 180, 225 grain).
