I haven't seen it yet but a guy Im doing a little stock work for has a Featherweight in 6.5 x 55 Swede for $500. From what I can find they were built from 1997 til 2006? I think it is CRF, but I can't find any for sale to compare. I'm thinking that $500 might be a good price if it is in good shape, but really don't know. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Unless it is rustier than a railroad spike and the barrel is bent more crooked than a question mark, I would definitely say that 500 is a good deal on it.

I'm no M70 guru but I'm pretty sure it won't be a CRF.

$500.00? I'd buy.

Buy it!
I have the same rifle, and I adore it and the caliber both...

I found one for sale for about twice that much which in itself is meaningless, but I like the implication. Thanks CrimsonTide, Ken

I don't know about the Win Mod 70, but I do know about 6.5x55 have owned several Carl Gustov's and with the lighter bullets it's an very good and accurate round. I shot 140 grain Normas through the one I built for the wife and was very pleased with it.

My 6.5 M70 shoots very well with 140gr Hornady Interlocks, also does almost as good with 140gr Partitions.
Using Lapua cases, Fed210M primers, and RL22.

You have to be careful with the 6.6X55, you end up liking it more than any other rifle you own and find yourself carrying it more than any other. Of all the 6.5 I've owned and that is just about everyone, I like this chambering more than all the others.

Great barrel life is the hallmark of this ctg.

I have a Model 70 Featherweight Classic that is CRF. I really like this rifle and the 6.5x55 is an excellent cartridge.

BTW, what 3sixbits wrote is so very true! You have been warned.

I'd buy that rifle.

ditto 6bits... the 6.5 swede is a great deer killer. I've never been elk hunting but others say it's good for larger game. Buy some 4831 and have at it!

I had a one when I was a kid and have always regretted selling it. It was a Mauser and deadly accurate. Thanks for the responses, Ken

It would take me about 15 seconds to buy that gun unless the barrel was bent.

That long? I'd have had the Benjamins in his palm before he could BLINK...

Even if it's a PF rifle, the price then is at least reasonable..

I had the same rifle but traded it in a fit of mid-winter boredom. That was stupid. It shot extremely well and looked like a million bucks. The guy I traded it to sold it on GB for $1053 without my Leupold scope. That was about twice what I paid for it.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds himself favoring the 6.5x55. It is a rock-solid deer rifle. My current Ruger M77MkII has a propensity for knocking deer directly to the ground where they stand - the famous DRT response.

Well, I got the pictures and it is a classic push feed with a quite unremarkable stock. It has however only had about 60 rounds through it. I bought it anyway for $500 and am paying for part of it with sweat so it's a good deal in my world. Thanks for the replies. I'm mostly a Remington guy, but have always had a liking for the Featherweight's look. Ken

Enjoy it, kend. I screwed up and didn't buy one when Winchester went out of business. It was at my local gunshop for two years, for $469, brand new. Till I finally decided to buy it, some other ne'er-do-well beat me to it. Hope he appreciates it.

I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in Swede. I paid $425 used, but that was several years ago. I'd say $500 is a good price.

My rifle is a tack driver. I floated the barrel with a Barsness prop job and a bit of sanding. I also ran a course of Tubb's Final Finish Bullets through the bore to polish it. Last fall I used a Hornady O.A.L. gauge to make some 120 B-Tip ammo. The rifle shot multiple sub half minute of angle groups with the ammo.

$500? I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I paid $625 for mine several years ago. I like it, and it has killed quite a few deer, plus a bobcat, but the throat is verrrrry long. I have to seat the 129 gr Hornady IL's out almost .350 to be .010 off the lands. Before I measured the throat, I loaded up some 120 Nosler BT's, and 129 gr IL's to standard length. Neither would hold 6" at 100 yds. When I finally broke the code and seated the bullets out, groups magically shrank to 1.5" at 100 yds. Luck was with me on two counts, one the action is a long one, and allowed the cartridge OAL with the bullets seated out to be used from the magazine; two, .264 diameter bullets tend to be long for weight and allowed enough shank to keep bullet tension and concentricity. I really like the rifle. Did I mention that I'd buy it in a heartbeat?

I just read your latest post. Push feed huh? Mine's a CRF. I'd still buy it though.
