I would just like some opions on what you guys think the best coon bait is?

no contest....big fat marshmallows......

A large, nearby cornfield.

Canned cat food, bacon grease, fish parts (if legal) and of course marshmallows.

I use the duffer's with a little canned cat food on the inside bottom (tuna, sea food flavored, whatever, but super cheapo). No Friskey's for those bandits. And I slide a big fat 'stinky' rubber fishing worm over the trigger (whatever is in my tackle box). The feel and smell hooks them up.

I use cheap canned jack mackerel, mixed with honey.

I'm convinced that 1/2 a honey bun with a eye dropper drop of vanilla flavoring is king for raccoon bait.

We set all our live traps with this and have GREAT success...

My top 3 would be crawfish oil, Ultimate Coon Lure, and Gusto. When I set for coon I always use one of those three. Get with Minn. Trapline.

I've had my best luck with crab shells with a touch of crab meat left in 'em for smell.

Dry dog food / kibble type stuff works, too, once they're accustomed to stealing it off the porch.

I know for a Fact that from www.wcs.com has some really good baits. IF your looking for a Cheap one, and IF you use the Egg Trap, I only use WCS Squirrel Paste Bait, 5 Small marshmellows in the egg trap, and 1 Large Marshmellow at the lid for eye appeal.

Personally, if this was my deer area and a procyon 'lotored' on into camera view, I wouldn't be too worried. Deer are use to coon stink, but they are not use to human stink. If the offender needs to be dealt with (and there will be 20 others waiting to take it's place), I would live trap it with mellows and an haul it out. A 220 in a cubby would work but coon blood also perks the attention of deer. I'd just do an 'in and out' deal with a live trap.

I am trying a live deal - used sardines - but mellows are the gig huh?

I have about 4 of them hitting this area with my deer. Damned things are little tanks.

Get a coon cuff, they work well in situations like yours.

Nothing wrong with little canned fish or canned cat food or anything, it's just the oils get on the ground and skunks, foxes, 'yotes and bobkittens are going to smell all that stuff too as well as the deer you want to slay. The thing about the marshmellows or cinnamon rolls is that its a mundane thing that raccoons like but alot of other critters pass on. You could probably put an old used tampon in a dirt hole, with some leg holds next to it and catch a coon, but very doubtful you will catch anything else. I'd go mellows/livetrap/eviction notice served, but then again I'm not too worried about the coon in the pic...now if that was a 2-2 1/2 foot wide whitetail buck then nerves would set in for sure. But the reality is it's just a raccoon. As long as it isn't on your back porch or in the attic life is good.

I've not much experience with coons or trapping - is that a large coon? Sure looks bigger than most road killed coons round here...
