Here's my new coyote rifle in .223, 1:9 twist. BSA 3 x 9 on top. Planning on Speer 52gr HP's over 21grs of IMR-4198

Speer 52's are very explosive, in a 1-9, they may detonate on the surface of a yote. The 52-53g Sierra is a better choice.
I went to Mexico with a box of 50 loaded to 3550 fps in a Ruger 22/250. We had 7 yotes get back up and try to walk off after surface explosions. I shot the balance of the 3000 that I had bought on P.dogs, and they were perfect for that application.
There is the outside chance that I got a bad batch of bullets with thin jackets.
Good luck!

Keith Thanx for the heads up. I love the Speer 52g HP, but have only shot it before in a 1:12 twist.

Couldn't think of a better platform for coyotes!! Ya done good Mark....
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

That should 'Get'er Done'! Try some 60 gr v-maxes over any flavor of powder you like if you want to save the hides. With all due respect to Rick Jamison, I didn't have very good luck with the 52 gr Speers either but I was shooting them out of a .22-250 also. At .223 velocities, they may work better.
Good luck.

Give the 52gr match Horndadys a look as well. I have come to use them exclusively for my coyote work in both 22-250 and 223. Usually drops them right there and does not tear the hell out of the hide if you are worried about that. I have not found a 223 that i could not get to shoot this bullet with H335. Definetly my go to combo in 223.....52gr match horndays and H335!!

Good looking rifle. What kind of groups does it shoot?

You may want to try 60 grain bullets if your shooting past 250 yards.
Your rig is very close to what I used before I jumped over to a 243 BAR.
Good luck - smack'em.

Meant 69 grain... your twist is fast enought to handle them.
