I found this in local pawnshop. Out the door $275. A lot of the finish is worn off, blueing is worn around the end of the barrel as if it hung in a gun rack in a pickup window. The hood is missing off the front sight. Best I can tell the serial number puts it as made in 1973, S/N 2708XXXX. It's in 30.30 Winchester. This is a good price for here. Month before Winchester announced they were closing, a gun in this condition could have been picked up for $125 and was in most pawn shops. The prices have dramatically increased, last weekend I found a 94 Winchester angle-eject, looked like it had been carried in the back of the truck for $425. Found a 336 Marlin for $450, blueing was wore end to end, most of the finish gone off the wood. Felt like $275 was a good price. I have Spear 130 gr HCFN and Varget and IMR 3031 for powder -- has anybody tried this combination in the 336. Thanks. Kevin

.
Looks like "Bubba" drilled out the Marlin bullseye for the sling swivel. Otherwise it looks to be a great buy. I prefer 150 gr. and heavier bullets but if the gun shoots 130's well, go for it. Varget is the better powder with most bullets in the 30-30 but I would try both and see what shoots.

JBLEDSOE This is my 1st Marlin. What bulleye? The seethru mounts and Simmons scope are gone.I'm looking at new mount and scope or maybe a fiber optic sight. Anyone know where a hood for the front sight might be bought? Kevin

this is an excerpt from the marlin website. www.marlinfirearms.com/CustomerSupport/faq.asp12. What is the small round black and white dot on the bottom of my Marlin stock? This is the Marlin "Bullseye". This trademark has been used since 1922 on all Marlin walnut buttstocks. Please note that this is not a suitable place to install a swivel for you firearm. Swivels should be mounted approximately 2 inches from the toe of the butt.
