Has anybody had a chance to shoot and handle one of these
rifles? If so what is your opinion. Thanks

depends on price. price varies wildly. over 750$ new is pricey.

I have a chance to pick one up in a 30-06.
Mint condition, has 3 five shot clips, and
original hard case. $750 for the package.
How does that price sound?

it looks like a browning BAR, I would just buy one of those instead they are about half the price of one of these things. What could be the possible advantage other than the H&K name?
I once bought a benneli as well...

As a former gunsmith (vocationally - still am a gunsmith), all can say is that sporting (as in, non military) semi-autos tend to encompass a lot of headaches. They will give several years of good service, and then when problems arise, you'll have a hard time finding gunsmiths that want to work on them.

good point. Even the military versions are a pain sometimes. In this case the H&K moniker is applied and for this a fee of $700 extra is included. The gun test people reviewed both the BAR and the HK and said the BAR was more gun for less money.

Like I said I bought a new Bennelli R1 in 30-06 and had it for about say...3 months, my bud still has his clunker 30-06 BAR he hunts with every year.
