Nice going, ironeagle. Now take it out, shoot the heck out of it! What did you name it? Or are you waiting to do that later?

You learn by doing so good on you. You proved she shoots so killing things shouldn't be an issue.

Iron Eagle, If I can offer a nickel's worth of free advice. A finish using only Tru-oil can change colors (a chaulky white)when in a wet enviornment. You ought to seal it with something. I use Helmsman Spar Satin as a final seal. A coat or two thinned and then final one full strength should do it. There was a thread not too long ago about the exact subject if you want other options. The other thing I would do is bed the bottom metal into the stock. With a little brown dye, you'll never notice the bedding and will close up the tiny gaps between the metal and wood. RH

That's a sweet shooting ride. I like that classic styled stock and the barrel contour. It's great for shooting off hand. Maybe consider a 3.5-10x40 loopy I've had great luck with them. Haven't tried it myself but a fixed 6x might be just right and fit right in with the classic action stock and barrel. Go slam yogi.

Ironeagle84 ,
Real nice 30-06 many of the old school cartridges get better with age -great brass/bullets/powder make them great cartridges for longrange shooting. Good for you on tackling the bedding and coating - i plan on doing some coating work on all my rifles. Them bears are in deep trouble!-Mike

I remember those floor plates! I had the pronghorn, and an oakleaf and acorn one!! Looks like a bishop/[bleep] mauser from the 60's! Anyone remember those ones they were selling, brownells barrels, that floor plate, similar stock. Cool, classic!

I really like this build also, ironeagle. Very cool, and as others have said you certainly can't possibly go wrong with the cartridge choice.
That stock has some great character! Beautiful all the way around!
I just finished my first custom a little over a year ago and have already tackled my second, third, and into my 4th... it is addictive...

i know what you mean about it being addictive efw, i have already planned my next three builds, and am now just working on the funds. i have even stepped up to trying to afford the scope i have wanted for a long time, a Bushnell Elite 6500 6-30x50mm Tactical. spendy, but should be a nice scope when i can afford it. it will go on one of the builds i am planning.
