Anyone have a good 160 gr recipe for the 7 SAUM? I'm setting up my SAUM as a back-up gun for my elkie trip in October. I'm going to try 160 Nosler Partitions and could use a few good starting pooints.

Velocity, primer, and distance from L&G would be nice.

Thanks.

59.5grs of H4831sc pushing 160gr Accubonds shoots right at 1"@100yds out of my Model 7. WLRM primers. No chrony so unknown velocity. Had to seat the bullets deep to fit mag so they are pretty far off the lands - factory tube.

Hope this helps

Thanks SM.

My rifle likes H 4831 under a 140 Partition. May try that under a 160 as well.

The two 160 grain loads I have used are 66 grains H1000 Win LRM primers and a 160 grain Sierra SBT that averaged 2996 fps and would group 3 into 3/4 inch groups.

The other load is 56.5 grains of RL17 Fed 215 primer and Nosler Partitions for a avg vel. of 2980 fps and 1 1/4 inch groups. This is the load I am using this fall on a elk hunt.

I have a pdf file of the load testing that Lane Pearce did for shooting times back in 2003 on the 7MM Saum if you would like a copy pm me your email and I will send it to you.

Hey R - I put together some loads last night - your H1000 load is one of them. Wish I could find some RE 17 locally..............

I have the Simpson article. I wasn't real impressed with his velocities or group sizes. I did note the powders that turned in best group size relative to his loads. H1000 shows up a few places as does H4831 and RE 22.

Thanks.

Bwinters,

The article I have is by Lane Pearce and his load data was in two different rifles both with 22" barrels, one
Ruger and one Rem. Model 7. The loads that I tried were almost identical velocity wise in my Ruger to what he got with his Ruger.

I shot a few powders this past weekend in the 7 SAUM using Nosler 160's. I wasn't alowed to use the speed machine at the public range so have no friggin idea on the velocity.

H1000 - 66.0 = 2.14", 67.0 = 1.96"
H4831 - 59.5 = 1.19", 60.5 = 1.56"
RE 22 = 59.0 = 0.80", 60.0 = 1.18"

The Re 22 loads overlap nicely so I'm going to re-shoot 59 and 60 this weekend and decide from there. I'm guessing all the above loads are in the 2925 to 2975 ft/sec neighborhood in my 24" M700.

super - my 7SAUM loves H4350 under a 140 Partition. I didn't try it under a 160, may this weekend.
