First off a big thanks to some of you, including SaddleSore. The info on these forums can be invaluable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, we made it back from our Colorado Elk Hunt. It was a success from the beginning. We encountered several buggling bulls and had some very close opportunities. I learned alot more on this elk hunt than the last time. Mapman said it best to say having a buggling bull run in to you screaming and growling is like calling in 20 gobbling turkeys all at once! This stuff is a team effort for sure. Hope you enjoy the pics. The view from Camp Home Sweet Home for 10 days The camp watering hole The neighbors Dad and Mapman Me and Dad at the Lake __________________ Western Kentucky Boy

The Cabelas tent did very well.
oldslowdog, the Horses weren't available to pack out on the day of the kill! It took us 13 1/2 hours from the time of kill to get it packed back to camp. we finished at 10 pm with an inch of hail on the ground... it was a fun day...
We weren't in the flattops this trip, we were in the west elk wilderness.

N - good deal and looks like you had a good time.
On the Cabelas tent - which one is it? Any thoughts on how it held up in the weather?
Thanks.

I think it's called the Alaknak (outfitter series). We rented it. It did fine in the weather, but we didn't have severe weather. We did have an inch of hail followed by freezing cold rain one afternoon. I had to use a broom to knock the collected ice off from the inside (lifting up on it) and then tighten up all the lead lines. I don't think they have as good of heat retention as a canvas tent, however they are worlds lighter to pack in... just my thoughts

Very nice pictures and a great story, also always fun to be able to hunt with your dad.
