Hi All,

Not sure if this had been discussed in the past, but wondering when the forend clip style changed?

The early 1899 forend clip is affixed with one metal screw going across forend, while later ones are affixed with two wood screws length ways.

Was this a major change from 1899 TD to 99 TD?

My latest old style is 1899H 164xxx and earliset new style is 223xxx in 99B.

My 99B is not marked 1899 or 99, but am going with the notion it is a 99B. No "B" marking on it either.

Also, I have 3 rifles 221xxx to 228xxx that do not have any Model Markings.

I think the change was made around the 204xxx-205xxx period. That might vary with the model. Do you have a 99-F with the cross screw?

This was one of the changes made around the end of WWI. There were a lot of changes made across all models as well as change in models. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanx for the input and info.

My early 99F 228xxx ~1920 has the two wood screws holding the clip. The 99B 223xxx has the two wood screws as well.

1899's 159xxx, 160xxx, 164xxx have cross screw.

Thought the info could be useful to your database.
