Stopped into a small gun shop while working my way home from the north country and on the rack ( consignment ) was a vintage Savage Model 99, schnabel forearm, 250-3000 cal. This rifle is in very nice condition and well cared for. Anyway - it was consigned at $795 ( seems a bit high to me ). It had an old Weaver 7x on top, I believe a V7 or ?7. Is this a ball park value ( or too much ) for an older Model 99 ? I'm just wondering as I have no interest in buying this rifle.
Regards, Vic

The older 99's were not drilled for scopes. No collector value. Get the serial number. That might make things a bit better...!!! Click For Goodies (lots more to come)...!!! Mike...
All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

Could it be a '50 vintage EG that is factory D&t?

yeah... it is very possible that this gun is factory drilled and taped... seem several 250EGs that are. Serial number would help. If you are not interested, you should post the name and possible phone number on here of the seller.
If the gun is correct and with the condition that you mention, the price is about right. Condition and originality drive price more than anything else.

Seems too high unless it's factory d&t. Don't see anything that would keep it from being a late 99A, either.
Check on serial number, barrel length, whether it's a takedown or solid frame, and whether it's a lever or tang safety.

The rifle is not a late model 99. It's a straight stock, no pistol grip. The lever appeared to be color case hardened, but I can't be absolutely sure. I'm looking for the business card, but can't find it. The store is The Chetek Rod and Gun - in Chetek, WI. I'll keep looking for the card.

now it sounds like an old F which would be aftermarket drilled and taped.
