Been pondering cutting the barrel back to behind the ports for some time. Only firearm I've ever owned that hurts my ears when I fire at game.

Wondering if anyone has done this to their ported GG and if they enjoyed it more, etc.?

Wondering of what you saved on the ports would be regained in the closeness of the muzzle to your ears. Would be pretty close to 16" long, wouldn't it?

BTW, I have a ported BOSS on a 300 WinMag that is loud enough that I checked my ears for bleeding the first time I shot a deer in the field without hearing protection. I got the unported BOSS immediately. Works MUCH better. wink

I have an 1895 22" for sale, asking $475. Maybe you could sell yours and buy mine? I can't imagine that you can have the barrel cut and crowned for much under $100, and your rifle ought to move quick at $450. I have a looker tonight, but for now it is still for sale.

Thanks,

Randy

Here's my 16" WWG conversion I bought used so I'm not sure if it started off ported or not. At 6lb 5oz it a handful. I would probably go 18" if I had a choice. But 16" is kinda handy and growing on me.

Salvo, I love the look of your carbine. Now, to figure out if I have enough time to do that to mine before November. Got too many rifles I need to shoot deer with right now.

That full length mag tube is awesome looking. Can't decide if I want to thin my factory wood or just buy some new nice wood that is uncheckered to start with...

So it's just bead blasted, not coated in any way?
