When I got my moose this year I realized that hauling Moose quarters on my WWII US Army Packboard was a younger man's game. I looked into an old external back pack and decided on the Kelty Cache Hauler. I really liked the look of the pack and I remember the Kelty externals from 30 years ago. Lots of company experience.
I am pretty happy with it. The bag is well thought out and not big enough to tempt bad gear choice. The extended shelf is very strong and I have been hauling my 80 pound daughter all over the place. The comfort is outstanding. 100 pound loads should be doable when I get my body use to it. I am very tempted to do some distance caribou hunts that I would never have attempted before.
The system for cinching the load onto the naked frame is outstanding and simple and the blaze orange waterproof cover a god send in bad weather or to keep from getting shot when hauling antlers.
Overall, Great balance between ruggedness and weight.
Great gear. I forgot how fun external packs are. I almost look forward to hauling big loads.

It is absolutely hard to beat for hauling quarters or hevy loads!
